Who's into S & M?

Schatt & Morgan knives were first manufacturer back in 1890. The Queen Cutlery company made most of the more recent examples, but Schatt had its own plant in its earlier years that cranked out the oldies. There is no shortage of fantastic Schatt & Morgan knives in existance that have been made over the brand's long & storied history.

I'm not a fan of wharncliffe blades, but those handles are outstanding.

Garry: DFC stands for Daniels Family Cutlery...headed by Ken Daniels, later of GEC fame and also Tuna Valley, I believe (both of which make superior quality knives...as I'm sure you know).

Fabulous knife Q, absolute sweet horn. Congrats and then some. Looks like Tiger hide to me.

Go figure, a guy ruins Queen and his DFC era knives are not great at all, but he then starts GEC and makes great ones now? How come he didn't do that at Queen? Mystery to me. All I know is whatever happened, Daniels got it together and took old machines and built a better pocket knife. Hats off to him for that. Should be entrepreneur of the decade to me for starting up GEC. Love the guy and don't even know him.

I believe Bill Howard is the genius behind GEC.
Ken Daniels purchased Queen after he left GEC, 2011?
It is my understanding that DFC is now Ryan Daniels and his wife.

Hey, thanks for the clarification, my mistake, believe you're right, it was Howard, not Daniels. Ahhhh, it all makes sense now. Thanks Edge.

Thanks, luckydog64. ::handshake::

Here's a little extra info on the Daniels Family GEC connection:

When Ryan (Daniels) turned 21, he and his Dad (Ken Daniels) had the opportunity to start their own knife factory with a man that had worked as the Master Cutler for Queen for years, Bill Howard. In 2006 they officially started Great Eastern Cutlery, which specialized in making 100% USA made knives, made like they used to be back in the early 20th century. Ryan took the position of National Sales Manager, and went right to his roots for promotion at the knife shows. Ryan and his family traveled all across the country for 6 years promoting GEC.

As all great things have to end, and on January 1, 2012 the Daniels Family sold their shares of GEC to Bill Howard, and also acquired the old tang stamp brand Tuna Valley Cutlery Co. But when one door closes, another opens, and they were able to purchase Queen Cutlery Company, which had been a lifetime dream of Ken Daniels. They were able to run operations for another 6 years. Unfortunately an occurrence of employee theft left them no longer able to stay open, and Queen Cutlery was forced to close their doors in January 2018.

Mahalo to all for the kind words...although, I must confess that realize I made a mistake posting that QUEEN #01 ACSB knife in this SCHATT & MORGAN thread... ::doh:: oopsie-daisy :oops: my bad... ::dang:: . (At least S&M is made by Queen...so, maybe I can be forgiven for the error. ::undecided:: )

I’ve had this one for a few weeks now. After Covid my energy level is up and down and just didn’t get around to taking pictures until now. Finally got a Premier Scout knife. I might end up selling it. The short can opening blade is very hard to open. It has a lot of tension on it so the pull is hard, plus the nail nick is very short so it’s hard to get my steel thumbnail in there. One of those blades that slaps back down every time you try to pull it up. Took me 12 attempts to open it for these pictures. Other than that I love this knife. It is shorter than I thought and made for lighter work than most camp knives. But it is one well built knife.

Great looking bone on that one, Mark. If I collected Scout pattern knives I would buy it in a heartbeat. Put that same bone on a Mini Trapper and The Monkey would be all over it (by which I mean I would have to pay whatever it took to own it). ::nod::

OK folks...Here's a riddle for you: Is this a Queen (see shield) or a Schatt & Morgan (see tang stamp)?

Makes no difference to me either way; I bought it for the Stag and the Wharncliffe blade. ::nod::
