Cattaraugus punch blades

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

Those are actually chisel blades, made for whittling. (There are probably other uses also, as those patterns look like a harness jack). Cattaraugus put them in their Whitt-L-Kraft knives - I’ve never seen them used by anyone else. ::shrug:: (Other than the pictured knife I’ve not seen that Case Brothers - makes me wonder if it was made for them by Cattaraugus?)

I've got one of those Whitt-L-Kraft scouts but I think mine looks a little different, kind of like a cross between this and a punch .

Here’s the Catt Whitt-L-Kraft knife I referenced. It’s different from the OP in that the chisel groove is long and there is a nail nick. It’s still a whittling chisel blade though. Catt also used the same blade in unofficial “scout” patterns.

I can’t believe nobody has a punch blade like these two. Great for putting round holes in leather.

Any other Cattaraugus 42179 laying around. Three back springs, California clip master, Great Western long spey blade, sheep foot third blade and a punch. Never sharpened.

My only Catt punch blades. The wrench knife punch has been re-profiled and it's the only stamped one.

Pretty standard sort of punch to my eye.

Picked this one up today. Long pull master, long spey blade, and a punch. Older repair on front scale but displays well.

I normally prefer the more rounded bolsters, but that one is almost enough to change my mind. A real beauty!

Almost four inch with square bolsters, long pull clip, spey and punch. Schrade boys say they didn’t make it for Jack knife Ben.

Still like my KEEN KUTTER picture. I found this in a box of knives rolled up in a card board tube.
