Gunstock And Jack Catt

The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

Gunstock And Jack Catt

Post by Ripster »

Here’s a Couple that I picked up cruising the backroads . The Gunstock and the Jack have arched stamp. The21459 is a EDC at times. The Gunstock is Wore but usable ,although May retire that one. Got less than 50 bucks in the pair ,and very happy with that . Both have half stops, will bite and tight. Just tough,solid,well built old Catts.
Take care out there ::tu::

Those sure are good looking Catts. I bet they have a lot of slicing left in them.

Great old knives and the price was a real bargain in your favor.
J.P. you are building a fine collection of USA made folding knives. Pretty soon you will pass the 1,000 mark if you haven't already.

You’re poking on a couple of my weaknesses J.P. - Gunstocks and Catts. You’ve got some real prizes there. ::tu:: ::tu::

Here’s a celluloid Catt that I haven’t decided yet whether to leave it alone and keep an eye on it, or go ahead and get it re-handled. ::shrug::

Ken,Thank you Sir.
They are a great model and built well, can see why it could be a weakness.
That Catt you have is good piece,worth new handles if you ever decide. Thanks for posting it ::tu::
If anyone else has any thing to show off or post ,feel free ! No matter the condition, they’re a great part of our U S Cutlery industry in its day.
Take care.

For what it's worth Ken, I would keep an eye on it and wait it out.

Thanks. That’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve had it a while. In spite of the cracks I think the “waterfall” celluloid is beautiful, I’ve not found anything in the current Kirinite and similar materials to rival its translucent “depth”. If/when I find something that rivals it’s appearance I’ll probably do a re-handle (or if it starts going off I may have to do something sooner). Meanwhile I just enjoy it despite it’s flaws - after all, it’s a gunstock and a whittler! :lol:
