here are a couple of CATTARAUGUS scouts. The first one is a salesman sample with different handles.

Nice ones JKB ::tu::

Have you ever owned one where the compass worked?

The whole idea of putting a compass on a slab of metal was crazy. I have a couple that the needle will change position if you tap the handle but not free wheeling.

JKB,

I have never seen it in print but, I believe you were supposed to take the compass out of the knife and hold it in your hand for it to work. I have several of these and the compass pulls right out with your fingernails. None of mine were ever glued in. This would account for the ones I have where the compass is missing. The bone after many years would shrink slightly and the compass would fall out :(

It is an interesting one. When I searched on the web, it brought me a description on an Antique & Collectible knives page that said it is from the 1930's. I am just wondering if anyone has a catalog picture?

No picture of a 12124 but Ferguson has a picture of a 12114 that I would like to find. 4 5/8 inch odd looking tooth pick but no dog bone bolster.

Here is the book that I have and a scan of the knife that JKB mentioned. I did not find your "dog bone" knife listed in it though. Maybe it might be in another catalog?

How do you keep that Ferguson book so nice looking? Mine is all grungy and dog eared and the pages are all loose. We just had about 14 inches of snow and I am getting cabin fever. I really need a good auction.

I am sure it will get dirty over time. My Goins book is already practically falling apart... :shock: I love the knife books & don't mind buying them when I have a couple extra bucks to spare.
