1960's Guild Classical
I found this 1964-65 Guild Mark III Classical guitar in an antique shop in Princess Anne, MD last week. It is solid mahogany with the most tightly grained spruce top I've ever seen. It also has an original period hard shell case. I looked it over for 15 minutes and it appeared to be in mint condition, so I bought it. When I got home and began to string it up I found the bridge was split in front of the saddle. Not a big deal as Jeff Hostetter, my luthier pal, says he can fix it up for around $150.
I'm not a classical player but this old guitar deserves to be put in the hands of someone who understands it's value and function.
If you know the American-made Guild guitars, especially the older ones from the Hoboken factory, then you'll understand. The Mark III is a somewhat rare one. I've seen prices for rough ones around $500 and really nice ones as high as $1500. ( Money is nice but getting the old girl back in the culture is more important to me.)
Thought maybe you guitar lovers might enjoy seeing it. Can't wait to hear it all redone. J.O'.

Beautiful old guitar in fantastic condition!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

I know nothing about guitars but it is always great to see any old classic brought back to life no matter what it is.

I know nothing about guitars but that one is beautiful.
Lovely spruce; it must have come from a cold environment.

Thanks Phil.
FRJ: Don't know where Guild sourced it's spruce in the 60's ? Could be Sitka ? Agree on the "cold" theory. J.O'.

Re: 1960's Guild Classical
Got the Guild MK III classical back from Jeff Hostetter at Stringed Instrument Repair. New bridge, can't tell it was ever touched. Sounds great! Only problem is I can't do diddly squat with it. I've played Martin, Guild, and Gibson steel string acoustics with 1-3/4 " necks for 60 years. That wide classical neck is like being on another planet! I just can't change at this age. If anybody knows a classical player who needs a sweet, 1965 guitar in fabulous shape, send him/her my way. It needs a new home. Thanks J.O.
