The great banjo player, Bill Emerson, passed this week at 83. Bill was THE banjo player in the Bluegrass scene around D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Played with such bands as Bill Monroe, Cliff Waldron, Buzz Busby, The Country Gentlemen, The Stonemans, Bill Harrell, Jimmy Martin, Red Allen, and the U.S. Navy Bluegrass Band, "Country Current". He was the first banjo player to record Manfred Mann's pop tune, "Fox On The Run".
Bill was a major part of the development and popularity of Bluegrass from the 60's till today. Certainly one of the "Giants" Rest in peace, Bill.
Tom T., Nancy Griffith, now Bill Emerson. Here's hoping the theory of 3's in bad fortune holds true for music for a while!

The singing stars were Marines, they went through Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Don and Phil Everly were already hit performers when they enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in November 1961. Reportedly, they enlisted to avoid being drafted into the regular Army. I missed 'em by appx 9 months.

Re: LOST STILL ANOTHER
Jerry: Thanks for the nice post. Been reading some bios etc. on the Everly's. Seems they were admired and well liked by the music industry folks. Came from a solid family. Good YouTube video from their adopted home town of Shennandoah, Iowa. Gibson made their signature J-185, "Everly Brothers" guitars which are now world wide collectibles with their own exclusive owners' association. Charter members of the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Tightest vocal harmonies and timing ever. Glad they were in my generation. J.O'.
