Vintage Eversharp Knife Sharpener, Bridgeport, Conn.

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

This Eversharp knife sharpener has been in my family for many, many years. In those years, it has been in many different drawers, in many different rooms. It is now in one of my kitchen drawers and it still does the job. I believe it to be from the 1950's, but it could possibly be from the late 1940's.

My Grandmother had one of those.

One thing about those things, they will remove a lot of metal.

I've experienced metal loss and chipping.
That is why I only use it on my "cheaper" made cutlery.
Mainly, its just a kitchen/work bench gadget that I don't want to toss.

A while back I did a job in an old (1920's or 30's I think) house and on the old original steps going down into the basement there was a sharpener like that nailed into the wood.

I thought my dad kept one nailed to the top of his workbench. But after he passed and I started to gather up his belongings, when I got to the workbench, no sharpener nailed to the top. But, this one was in the main top drawer. It was never nailed down, just always on the top and at the ready. He used it to sharpen any inexpensive tool that would fit. He never used it to sharpen knives, he would use a stone for the knives.
