Northwoods Ocoee Jack

The Northwoods Knife brand name originated in Gladstone, Michigan when a man named Dave Shirley adopted it as his knife company's name in 2004. Dave was well known for collaborating with popular knife companies to have knives made to his specifications for resale well before 2004 & beyond. KnivesShipFree bought Northwoods from Dave & has continued to team up with respected makers to produce knives marked with the Northwoods brand name.

I want the blue sawcut bone. I never can snag a Northwoods KnivesShipFree GEC made knife.

I got to agree - that Blue Sawcut is nice. Different then what were used to. The Green Jigged is nice too. ::shrug::

You might not have too much of a problem getting one if you're available at drop time. The Blue Sawcut might be one of the knives that don't have individual pictures because they all look pretty much the same.

If that's the case, you won't have to spend time picking one out. You'll still only have maybe 4 or 5 minutes to buy it but choosing one will be easy if there is only one picture.

I am disappointed to again see this 'Bohncliffe' in yet another Northwoods. It's a neat profile for 1 or 2 knives but not for almost every Northwoods release.
A good saber ground clip blade with dramatic swages or a saber ground spear point are both more all round useful blades and would add some variety to the Northwoods knives.
I do not understand why they keep using this blade.

They did release the Coolidge Jack just recently which had a different blade profile. Maybe demand is just higher for the 'Bohncliffe'?

Personally, I haven't decided on a handle material for this one. It'll likely be a 'user' for me regardless.

I agree that this style of blade is over used on these Northwoods. Since I don’t use them and just collect them it isn’t an issue for me. But if I wanted to use one, I have plenty of Bohncliffe blades to choose from and darn few clip or Spey blades.
I know the order of my purchases already.

I think that was as fast and hectic as I 've ever experienced. I got a Desert Ironwood, and was lucky to get it.

the absolute killer is having to go back thru the 2 step process of emptying your cart when you miss.

Nice! I bungled around for too long and was not decisive with handle materials. Usually I tilt toward green, but the tractor green didn't do it for me. I tried for the giraffe bone. Got lucky. #47

Agreed, Cletus. I futzed around a bunch...stupidly. From my perspective, the Red/Black Micarta and Blue Sawbone sold out the fastest, maybe because you didn't have to select a specific handle as was mentioned above. I'm a glutton for punishment and kept hacking away at the giraffe bone.

once I missed 2-3 times I just randomly chose Ironwood until I hit. No idea which one I got. I continued to try for a Giraffe but got skunked. There were some really pretty Giraffes I must say. From very green to pale blue and everything in between.

I tend to gravitate towards the more natural brown giraffe handles. The Ironwood was my other choice, but I didn't pull the trigger on a second purchase. Congrats on your IW though!

I missed 4 giraffe bones. One had spots like a cheetah, really bummed when that one didn’t go through. But I did score 3 others. I went for the giraffe bone last, my hunch on it was correct. When you get to check out and it’s already sold, you lose a lot of time trying to get another one. So I reversed the order and bought the others first and then went for the giraffe bone. I missed it but got the other 3. My ironwood is very dark, I didn’t bother looking at options, figured I would get skunked if I did. This grasshopper is learning.

I got nothing ! no blues 30 seconds , no acrylic in one minute , I tried for the wood , nothing. How did some people get three ? Somebody is using special buying software ???? When I get mad at GEC and GEC dealers , I go custom !

I've wondered this as well. While these knives are so hot and the resale so strong, I doubt people will be very forthcoming with their specific techniques, if there are any. Some have suggested (lamented) that internet speeds are a culprit and then go on to blame knivesshipfree.

I've been skunked before and I didn't like the feeling. For me, it makes the next score all the more rewarding. This time I got one. Next time I may not.

I went in only wanting an ironwood with figure, I've also become tired of the Bohncliffe and don't think it belongs on the 92 frame, looks out of place to me so had no intention of getting any of the other handles. I lucked out and did get a figured one.

I got rid of my straight edge 92s over the last year as they weren't for me, so I didn't have alot of enthusiasm for this drop. That changed when J saw the stragglers tab. 1 sawcut Madison Barlow scratched the itch.

That is Great looking Ironwood posted 2 above.
Where is the "stragglers tab" ? Does this only show up at same time as a new Northwoods release ?

My 3 arrived today. Extremely happy with all three. I was afraid the Ironwood would disappoint but it didn’t. Thought I would end up selling it but I am very pleased with it. The back actually looks better than the front.

That’s quite impressive to score three with even the blue sawcut

I scored a giraffe. It is mostly green with hints of yellow and blue. I put it beside the GEC 92 Eureka and removed the secondary blade on the Eureka. My opinion is the Ocoee would look better with a spear blade.

The green is my favorite. I’m very partial to green bone. But the ironwood is a close second.
Ralph you are right this would look and be better with a spear blade.
