Dave Shirley Marbles

Webster Marble formed Gladstone Mfg. Co. in 1892. That company created the first folding Axe in 1893 which lead to the incorporation of Marble's Safety Axe Co. in 1898. The company became Marble Arms & Mfg. Co. in 1911 & enjoyed years of success until succumbing to a shut down of production in 1974. The brand was brought back to life in 1994 & enjoyed a grand rejuvenation that later gave way to another shutdown in 2009. Many great knives & tools were crafted over the company's storied history.

Here’s a sales brochure I bought recently that shows production information and pictures from 2001. Sorry for the sideways picture. I tried loading it twice and for some reason it ends up sideways.

Red, I do not know about them Crouch folders, he knew a lot of knife
guys so I reckon he could have talked to them.... ::shrug::

Gary, what a fine collection you got going there, and,
that Trailcraft on the left with the dark etched Marble's for
the stamp, "Transition" model as they were getting rid of the Gladstone stamp
and going to the Banner stamp in 2002...but, yours was made with the
52/100 steel just the way they made all the fixed blades from 1998-2001

I was in the right place at the right time on this one. This is my second EO Jack. My first one has blue pin feather jigged bone. This one is red bone stag. Just lovely.

Bought this Marbles from Rob Celani last week. Love the stag on this one, especially the front cover.

Thanks Doglegg.
Another one arrived today. Found this one on Ebay last week. No box, which is a drag but I couldn’t pass up this beauty. I thought I already had this one, but I have the EO Jack in red bone stag, just like it. I have a hard time passing these up, what great knives Dave Shirley made.

Here are a few I have. The Elephant Toe was a handmade prototype made for Dave Shirley by Royce Shehorn. I feel very fortunate to own that one.

Very nice, indeed Hardman.

Picked up two more Marbles to add to the stable of Marbles knives.
The 2002 stag is one I have a question about. I have read that after 2001 the knives were made and finished by Queen and before that the parts were supplied by Queen and finished in Gladstone by Marbles. Can anyone confirm that?
Doesn’t bother me a bit either way, but I would like to know to keep my facts straight.
The Congress is white Micarta. The mini trapper is stag.

Nice ones, Mark. Soooo...am I correct in understanding that those are going into your collection (not into your store)? ::undecided::
