WW2 Haversack

Post by outkast »

Mail Call!!! won this on Ebay about 3 weeks ago and it finally arrived I know it's not a blade, but when it's made by J.A. Henckels does it really matter. Was listed as a WW2 Haversack (shoulder bag). As for authenticity I don't know as it's the only one I've ever seen marked Henckels.

Imperial Germany M1887 style pouch known as a 'bread bag'. It was used to carry a canteen and other supplies. These were used by the German military 1887-1945 and were made by many manufacturers. Judging by the construction this one was made for use in WWI so it will date to around 1915.

As a collector of German cutlery I believe your Haversack is authentic and carries the correct Henckels logo for the period. The font style of the lettering, the inclusion of the work "Zwillingswerk" and "Solingen" gives it a thumbs up. Not sure why Henckels would have been involved in producing these bags but in the era of Nazi Germany companies did what they were told to do. Just my thoughts.

That’s one of the coolest things I’ve seen come through here. ::tu::
