Re: Commercial pilot survival knife?

Probably the Camillus made 'astronaut'. It had a plated blade, other than that, pretty typical Jet Pilot. Repost your question in the Camillus brand forum and someone might shed more light on it. I have owned a couple of those myself.

Re: Marble's Pocket AX ?

If this is a recent issue, it's worth about $24. If it is like from the 1950's, more like $300. If it is one those advertised in the original 1900's catalog.. well, just say more than $300. There have been so many Marbles products made by so many different firms, the brand is kinda diluted. Can you ...

Re: Schrade Cutlery Collectors Society

I think it is a great looking knife, and I would like to have one.

Stewart Taylor has done Schrade Knife collectors a huge favor by creating the Collector's club, something that can hugely honor the history of the company and help guide it's future.

Re: Is this a Puma?

Model 6393 skinner. The 'Pumaster steel' knives of that era are some of the greatest production knives ever made. The knife was marked, at one time, but Puma uses etching, and on that knife it is long, long gone. I like it.

Re: Schrade Unofficial "GIRL SCOUT" Shielded knife

Stange. I have always felt that the official scout knife chart in BR LEVINE'S 4th ed was the ultimate guide to these knives, but no Schrade girl scout is mentioned there. Well, at least a couple people think the knife is worth something.

Re: "First Run" Stag Handles

Mike Stewart is certainly the American knife manufacturer that most uses the term 'first production run'. In fact, I think he has used that gimmick more than all the other knifemakers put together.

Going out on a limb here, Keith.. The box is a lighter colored woodgrain than those used by Schrade Walden of the same time frame, when both companies were under the same ownership. Just a clue.

Not bad, but the maker has a touch of the Scagel syndrome: Come on, are you handling the knife in wood or in stag?

Re: new purchases

As I recall, the McCoy knives were made by Colonial, for a company in Arkansas that mainly dealt in sharpening stones. They were most frequently sold in a little cedar box which included a stone. Chuck Buck has signed a lot of knives in his time, good for you to find one. I have one he signed for me...

Re: What is this thang anyway??

BEAR HUNTER brand. Made in Pakistan, no matter what it says about solingen or germany on the blade. Were imported in huge quantities around 1999- 2003. Still available at some wholesalers. Handles are bone. Perhaps camel bone. As bone is porous, would be hard to remove the stains with almost anything.

A young friend of mine needed something cool for this groomsmen, wedding in a couple of weeks. At the price point he gave me, and the request for something his friends would not buy for themselves, would not see for sale at the local KMart or Walmart, and would in fact be special... I obtained and d...

Re: H. Boker & Co. Improved Cutlery

Good thread to start! As per Boker and G. Schrade... You will sometimes find a knife on ebay and the seller is peeing his pants as he describes something rare and unusual and unique: It has a G. Schrade blade on it! Yikes! Gotta be a factory mixup or something else to make the knife one of a kind! B...

Please forgive my sloppy, or incomplete, research. Of course Novelty did razors, and to clear up the question of the one with black handles, I offer this illustration. Picture handles were indeed made as well.

I just finished my two week suspension from ebay today... got caught offering to sell military / combat / tactical knives to International buyers. Very nice addition to the thread! I didn't know Novelty did straight razors. I don't know what the patent number would pertain to, perhaps you are right about the handle material.

Thank you for contributing to the thread, Charlie. A shame your knife's pictures 'faded away' as I put it. But nice that you still have it.

How amazed would the Major be, that we still celebrate his wonderful knives, how we value them even when the photos are long, long gone?

I think this is the ship etched onto the blade.

It is a rather noble looking ship, isn't she?
