Ice Picks
These things used to be a kitchen necessity and favored domestic murder weapon (right behind a cast iron frying pan in lethality), but nowadays they are rarely seen. I'm visiting my folks in Fla for the holidays and my mother brought out this one - Rantz Ice Factory on one side and Manufactured Ice ...

They're still in production. Here is a new one I bought to give to my brother for Christmas. It's a heck of a nice knife, I may have to get one for myself some day.

Re: Queen Fixed Blades
I just bought my first Queen fixed blade and I'm impressed. The general finish is exceptional and the pattern suits me just fine. But this one will go to one of my brothers for Christmas, so I will only have it for a short while. I'll take plenty of pictures.

A Parker line from the 1980s. Seki-made, decent knives. Search will turn up a few mentions over the years.

Re: Bear & Son Cutlery Rosewood Mini Trapper Linerlock Knife
Mostly the small knives that hardly have room for the whole stamp. I've seen knives from Red Hill, from Knife Center, from Amazon like that. I think it was just poor quality control in the earlier days of the company. I haven't seen any like that from the last few years, and none on larger patterns....

I think that is the original handle and shows typical shrinkage. It's a fine looking knife of a style that I like, and in my opinion well worth the opening price and then some. I agree with you it would make an excellent EDC - go for it, man.

Re: Knives from the Bay... Chesapeake Bay, that is.
These regional brands are a fertile field for the collector and historian. It's hard to compete with the acknowledged experts in, for example, Case or Kabar, but a man could put together a small collection of knives like these, do a little driving and visiting libraries in the Bay area, and be an ex...

Re: Give this thread a try and see where it goes
Wazu, I worry about that continually. Here in the south there's more moisture in the air than there is in the water. The best I can do is to keep all my knives in cloth rolls that are kept in a cool, dark place, and hope that the humidity doesn't vary enough to cause condensation. Question - Do you ...

I was showing an older Kershaw to a new guy at work, young guy right out of the Marine Corps and he immediately pulled a Kershaw Ken Onion out of his pocket and said it was his favorite carry knife. Turns out he's a real knife aficionado so it means something that he carries the Kershaw.

Lug, did you see the one in the TL-29 thread that's marked U.S 12852 on the shield? I wonder if that is an Army-issue knife.
Its on page 5 of the thread

Re: Got pics of your Boker Barlow?
Here's my two, a 493 and a 495. First thing I notice is the saw cuts go one way on the 493 and the other way on the 495. Second, look at the stamps on the bolsters - the 493 is more like it was machined in whereas the 495 looks like it was done with a stamp. Also, the 493 has a groove around the bas...

Re: WW2 Electrician's Knives
Those U.S. Army ones must be comparatively rare. I just looked through my collection of 30 or so knives and found several "TL-29" and lots of unmarked ones, but no U.S. Army.

Re: Is altered the same as counterfit?
OK, I'll take my life in my hands and give an opinion on the original question. Altered is not the same as counterfeit. I have plenty of altered knives, like my TL-29 conversions and rebladed knives where the original blade snapped off. In my opinion, these are not counterfeit. A craftsman can take ...

How about the striations in the blade? Lots of interesting features to the old knife.
Is the handle dirty or is it tarnished? If it's just dirt, the handle could be gold. Any proof marks on the bail?

I believe that's the Hickey of Hickey & Shouse, the Battle Axe importers. If I remember correctly, these two North Carolina boys brought in a lot of very nice commemorative knives in the 1970s and 1980s.

This one was advertised as a "Kershall" on ebay and I guess that helps explain why I was the only bidder and got it for $9.99 plus shipping. It has some sort of eagle inlay on the reverse, looks like resin inlaid deep in the handle, I can't tell if it is from the factory or later customizi...

Chevy, yours is a lot cleaner than the one on ebay and worth every bit of $20. I think you got a deal. And OH, yours looks great too, with the sawcut delrin. I'll second Johnnie, nice job on all of them and I especially like the easy openers. Seems like most people who like old knives have a high regard for simple, single spear bladed, medium sized pocket knives - and nobody seems to make them anymore. I guess the few companies that still exist can make ...

That's a good workmanlike knife, the well-used gloves make an apt background.
