Re: Great Eastern #86

Thanks for the heads-up. I have tried to get on Latham's site in innumerable ways without success. Pretty much locked out with bizarre notices. I used to go there years ago and bought a couple thousand dollars worth of GEC knives from him-- great guy. Doesn't seem to work anymore. I don't have any ...

Re: GEC Wholesaler ?

I didn't do a very good job, let me try this again. "distributor" is just a word for the top-tier dealers and "dealer" is the word for the smaller. Instead of "Gold" tier and "Silver" tier as some do. They are all listed in GEC's website and buy directly from ...

Re: GEC Wholesaler ?

GEC has a two tiered distribution model. Any dealer that purchases at least $36k yearly can sign up on the "distributor" tier when they open it up for new clients. This level has been closed for some time as they are protecting current clients given current capacity. They also have a "...

Re: German Case Lockback Value?

This is one of those examples of a knife that was shunned when it was made. Case was not so good at fixed blades and lockbacks, so they had Boker make some for their line. Dealers and collectors didn't like the idea and so the series did not last long. With 5 or 6 years they skyrocketed. In mint con...

Re: Where do you buy your GEC's

Except on eBay and through private sources, you will not find any variation of the prices for new Great Eastern knives. It's my understanding that when granted a dealership the prospective distributor agrees to follow Great Easterns MSRP schedule. (If I am incorrect about that, please correct me.) ...

Re: Why Has GEC Knives Fallen Off the Cliff?

Do you have a picture of the end of the tube (with numbers)? I have bought a lot of knives off eBay. But it finally got to where I was always trying to read what they DID NOT say in the description. It seemed like people were using it to pass off culls. Obviously, if this knife left GEC as a first q...

Re: GEC stag source?

Most makers don't make known their actual supplier, but stag slabs suitable of knives are nearly always sambar or red stag. Many factories don't label it specifically because they may use sources that don't document the exact breed or they may just take good deals when they arise. Few species have t...

Re: Ban on pre-ban ivory (knife handles).

From the man himself... Not a scam. They just want it into someone elses hands before they can't ship it any more. Some are predicting a .22LR bullet type reaction when they start talking gun restrictions. If it saves the elephants, I'm all for it. But it looks to me like it will include everything...

Re: GEC Pricing

Without knowing who you are talking about, I will say there must be a prototype or finger-checked price going on. Distributors are top notch (although, my wife says I'm a little "shifty") and I don't think there is any gouging going on just because these are in high demand.

Re: Reasonable offers considered

This is somebody that doesn't know a thing about knives and saw the mint price in a book probably 10 years old and figured it had to be worth more now. If you are interested in the knife, I would politely explain to him that condition is everything in this hobby. If a mint is $750 in a book, that re...

The Tidioute models came with the secondary a little high on many of them. I just dropped most of them myself for a perfect little knife. But if you are worried about it, just ask the dealer to insure it is not interferring.

Re: #78 American Jack

The factory supplier knows that GEC / customers like the darker ebony; but many times if you are going to make them - you have to make them with what is available. They don't use gabon very often, but what they do use will come with a lot of brown one time and mainly black the next. Just the luck of...

Re: Different shields on GEC knives

I am really starting to like (love) GEC products!! So far I have a #73 Tidioute and a GEC #73 . I am looking at several of the Northfield UN-X-LD. I have noticed that GEC uses many different shields on their knives :? From UN-X-LD, to acorns, to Tidioute logo, beavers,NACB bull head, etc.. My quest...

Many thanks and just thought I would follow up. Stacy had a double mastectomy the end of October and they took the sentinal lymph nodes for pathology. The pathology came back clean, so it looks like they caught it still in the duct and it all came out in the surgery. Thanks again for all the thought...

You are the one that has to be happy with a purchase. But I have an alternate assesment of what you are seeing based on your pictures. Friends,

Interesting "racist" read given Trayvon calls for uprising

This is a good read given what is going on these days and what the media would have us believe is wrong with America.

God Bless and have a good weekend.

Your issues inspired me to pull my own out of my pocket and inspect it for similar issues.
