Re: I'll take two...maybe three
OK. From looking at your list again it appears that when two patterns are issued, one will be limited and one will be common, i.e. in 2009 the large toothpick is limited to 350 pieces and the Seahorse whittler is the common issue. I think I understand now. Is that correct? That's right. Personally ...

Re: I'll take two...maybe three
Hey Eric, what distinguishes the limited knives from the non-limited? Are they numbered? As far as I can tell there is no difference between the two, other than one is limited to 350 and allotted to certain dealers (who sell them for a big profit :) ). The other is made in an unknown total number. ...

Re: I'll take two...maybe three
Great info SR ::tu:: , any idea on the #'s of the not so limited? No, I don't have any Idea about the not so limited. They are typically available even the next year, and don't really sell out very fast, however. The limited are actually hard to find at a reasonable price. Last year I had to wait t...

Re: I'll take two...maybe three
In re-reading my post, I noticed that sounded a little snarky in my reference to GEC.
For the record, I am a GEC collector.

Re: I'll take two...maybe three
Well, as a collector of the Halloween Case knives, I would have bought both of these if the price had been reasonable, since I have watched for a few years, but have not seen one reasonably priced. I watched these, but the price rose too fast. The Muskrat from 2004 was the first and is the most limi...

Here is my outlaw collection. Through constant vigilance and much dealer effort, I was able to get the full set of a certain number. Plus a Rootbeer prototype.

Re: In Praise of the Leatherman Micra
I agree on the Micra, I used them for years, and have a bunch and have given them to many people. I still use them around the house. However, the last few years I have switched to carrying a Leatherman Squirt S4. It is a little smaller than the Micra and the tools are accessible from the outside, wh...

Re: My Users - Some of each pattern
Eric, What is your criteria to make a knife a user or put it into the collection? First I buy all the ones for the collection. When they are out for a while, I think what I would like to carry, usually bone. I then look for at what is still available and sitting around, that may or may not be as co...

Re: My Users - Some of each pattern
::tu:: ::tu:: ::tu:: Awesome EDC's Eric!!! Love to see GEC's used. Just out of curiosity if you had to choose one what would it be. I seem to tend toward the 61/62s. The 48 (single-blade) and 57 are next, but the 79 is coming up on the outside... Next would be the 68, 33 and 85. The 53s are my favo...

My Users - Some of each pattern
It has been awhile since I posted a picture. Over the years I have designated a knife or two from each pattern to be a user. Here are most of them. This photo should contain at least one of each pattern release so far. (Not including the Missouri.) Some are used more than others, but these aren't pa...

Re: New to GEC
As far as rubs go, I think most have them. GECs are not customs and every little rub and scratch are not necessarily buffed out before shipping. They are handled a lot, I'm sure, during finishing and packing. Lots of knives are put on trays and they may rub a little. And while the blades rarely touc...

Re: Weidmannsheil?
I have good number. I always think of them in 3 groups. 1. Original Weidmannsheil - I don't have any of these. 2. Weidmansheil from parts when bought by Parker. I like these and look for them. 3. Standard Olbertz patterns, basically Bulldogs, with the Weidmannsheil name. - Have a few, but since they...

Re: Making Pocket Knives The China Way
I find that interesting about Mexico. Pretty much all of my contractors are Mexican. The current crew I have is from San Salvador. All I can say is that all of them are working SOB's. Yeah, there could be some sampling bias going on. That was one report of one manufacturing center in both China and...

Re: Making Pocket Knives The China Way
My view. At least they are standing there looking and learning. I have a coworker who did turnkey work of some sort in China and Mexico factories at a previous job. He says in China, there are a lot of people, but they are all there wanting to learn and help and work. In Mexico, there are a lot of w...

The last of the #85 Stags that I ordered from this run arrived today, I am pleased overall. IM :) I don't know why someone would buy 5 of almost the same knife. Re: Green Bone or Stag/Authentic Knife or Not?
The underlying material may be bone or 2nd cut stag (most likely bone). Nevertheless, the jigging is man-made. The regular tool marks in the bottom of the grooves is a sure sign.
I am a self-declared expert on stag.
Have no opinion on the authenticity.

They have great identification tools.
Victorinox is the best of the Swiss Army type knives, IMHO. Great quality.

Re: Queen Stainless Question
Well, I was under the impression that the S on these Blue Grass Cutlery knives was for Stag, as in a stag version of the regular bone knife. Stainless would be "SS". I think this is a 1095 blade with a stag handle. I may be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Edit: If you check out this lin...
