Re: A Special Young Man’s Special Accomplishment

Outstanding, Wade. You have taught him a skill set he will use the rest of his life. Some of my fondest memories are of tinkering in the shop along side my dad.

Re: All About Vegetation, House Plants, Gardens, Trees ect.

Good job Mike, how old are you and what region is this that has copperheads? They are the most common poisonous snakes in our area. Previous years I tackled a larger project like yours and about 5 years later I wouldn't attempt it. I'm almost 72 now. Also , what type of tree is that you cleaned aro...

Re: All About Vegetation, House Plants, Gardens, Trees ect.

Beautiful flowers, Tom. Here is our lone little blue bonnet in the front yard. We have a stand of live oaks between my house and my shop that had brush and briars under it, and I have been wanting to clean it out ever since we have lived here. Finally got around to it over the past couple of weeks. ...

Re: Cool Old Tools

I have been looking for a rolling chest for my Kennedy tool boxes for a while. I finally found one on FB Marketplace in my price range. I didn't really need the top 2 boxes (526 and MC28) as I already had a set, but decided to keep them. The bottom cabinet is a 297. I wiped it down with WD-40, clean...

Re: First Cup Diner!

Good morning. 55 here, headed to a high of 69. We got a good rain last night, and it is overcast today. The wife and I are both finally testing negative for covid, so I guess we can get out and about if we choose to. We are both a little congested and a little fatigued, but hopefully that will go aw...

Good Morning Everyone! I was out in the garage yesterday morning when a guy selling packages of beef came up. I didn't buy anything but when he saw examples of my woodburning work he ended up buying 3 pieces including the one pictured below. Nothing big planned for today, so I hope you all have a b...

It's 47 here right now, headed toward a high of 74 and sunshine. I puttered around in the shop yesterday without a jacket, and didn't even have to turn on the heaters. I opened up the big roll-up door, let the sun in, and rough-turned a bowl from a big chunk of chittamwood. First bowl I have turned ...

Treefarmer and David, hope you guys get well soon. The wife and I both came down with covid for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Re: Wood Lathe

I made this mallet for my son-in-law from some Ash from my place. Seems like I am always having ash trees come down. ::shrug:: It had some small cracks / occlusions, and I put some copper powder and CA glue in them to bling it up a little bit. Installed a walnut wedge and a leather pad on one face. ...

The couple of combination squares I bought off e-bay have shown up recently. The first pic is 3 Stanley's. Top is a Stanley No. 22, which has a cast iron head and has two level bubbles, which is pretty unique. The 22 was made from 1941 to 1974. I think this one dates to the 1940s or so. The next one...

Re: What Else Do You Collect Besides Knives?

My collection of wood planes is continuing to grow. I have picked most of these up at estate sales and refurbished /cleaned them all up. Lots of elbow grease involved between the rust removal, wood knob /tote repair and refinish, and sharpening the irons. But I enjoy the process. And I very much enj...
