Re: Shenandoah show this Friday and Saturday
Had a great time meeting up with Barry, Gene, Guy, Plumb Bob and some other AAPK members. Also bought a Catalina Wine Mixer Old Man Jack from Ryan Daniels, who showed Herb and I some prototypes they're working on including a Farmer's Jack ( I hope Lyle sees this 😉). I bought this Sterling Knife Co....

Re: Shenandoah show this Friday and Saturday
I've only been once, but it is one of my favorite shows I have ever attended. Unfortunately I won't make it this year. Hopefully I can for 2025.

Re: Remington Dynamite Knife
At first when I saw the photo, I thought it was a knife referencing the 1917 Halifax catastrophe in Nova Scotia, a ship full of dynamite exploded wounding/killing around 11,000 people.

I've witnessed guys pay quite a bit more for a low serial number. Personally I don't really care if it is #5 or #517, but everyone is different.

April 5th and 6th, who's going besides Herb and me? https://www.shenandoahvalleyknifecollectors.com/ I'm sort of bummed I won't make it this year. It just didn't make the cut, as I wanted to try out some new shows I've never been to. I'm going to Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Little Valley, a...

Re: Maple Syrup time for 2024
I once used a 55 gallon drum with a hole cut out for a pan. Started early in the morning and cooked well into darkness. Finally tried to finish up in the kitchen. Big mistake. Started to steam my wallpaper off the wall. Ended up with around a half gallon of syrup but never did it again. Sounds like...

Re: Maple Syrup time for 2024
You can tap in the south, its actually becoming more popular. Sap runs up in trees, probably not as strong a runs as up here. Small scale boiling in the kitchen can be a messy thing, That I know for sure!. Last time we did it we used a propane turkey cooker . Last time a buddy and I tried it we had...

Re: Maple Syrup time for 2024
Thanks for the details on the process. I'm curious about the tapping process. We have people near us in Wayne, WV that process maple syrup. My nephew and his kids ( he has 9 and he's in his early 40's) are giving it a go. They've made hundreds of gallons of apple butter the past few years. It's a c...

Re: Maple Syrup time for 2024
Another little update for our maple syrup process. We had a few days hit 70 degrees here, which is not great for maple syrup makers. I have my fingers crossed we will get another cold spell and make a bit more syrup, but it likely is all over. Here's the next step. Once the syrup gets close, it is d...

Re: Spirit of Steele knife show in Pigeon Forge, TN
I was there fall of 2022. I didn't make it to the show in 2023. Nice big show, clean and spacious room. Just about every table full of nice knives, both antique, custom, new & used traditionals, and a few modern. The crowd wasn't crazy packed, but it was steadily busy the whole time I was there....
