Re: Wood carving projects

Nice little bird! I don’t wear a glove or thumb guard, and usually end up with a bunch of micro cuts in my thumb pad from using it as a stop. Hope you get it healed up good.

I don’t remember the name of the medicine, but one of the first advertised restless leg drugs had people compulsively gambling, people who never had a gambling problem at all. It was found to have all sorts of weird side effects in behavioral change. Glad you are doing better.

Re: Wood carving projects

I gave my buddy the caricature and he loved it. He has a business card holder at my wife’s restaurant, and a lot of my carvings are up there too. We decided I would make a base to put his cards in so we can have it displayed for all to see.

I glad you like it, it was a fun little project and one I’m going to need to do a few more of for boys in my Troop. It was about a 4 day turn around working in the evenings after work. I just finished up another little project I will post in the woodcarving thread.

The two I have are perfect for and finish, but I bought them at Blade Show Texas direct from them and they were Qc’d by them at the register when I bought them. I know the member Corn Creek Cutlery on here is a distributor and I’m sure he would check them for you before shipping. He has a AAPK store...

Really nice example Skip! The full spear with swaging and the full still intact sheepfoot are great. I like a cattleman knife and this is a fine example. I did find 1925 was the deadliest year reported in coal mining which makes you think 1926 would be the first and your knife 1927 the second year f...

Re: mystery knife

I have several older knives with broken nail nicks. On close examination the nail nick is stamped or cut so deep that it’s paper thin where it breaks at. One I have is likely only .002” thick at the fracture.

Re: Oil or Water Stone Magnet trick?

The only thing magnetic should be swarf, of the grey metal remnants of the blade from sharpening it. That will happen on any stone but would not be enough to feel with a magnet. If the stone(any kind) loads up with swarf it won’t sharpen as well.
