I know this is old thread but here is a picture of knife when he went to Cuba. He was in the indian wars before that. Anyhow this is right around 1898 I think

The picture in the stanhope will give you the age. Looks to be a presentation knife given to some war hero or something like that. I hope you have the sheath. Collins made some real early bowies but that looks to be 1860s----1880s So do you think its that old? Got a swedish army knife too. So maybe...

That is one fine bowie knife. Hold the knife up to the light and look thru the stanhope. That little glass part. Might get more info from the picture. That knife with ivory handle is worth some money . dont piss it away

There is a ships anchor and other writing on the blade. I guess he got tired of the tip of the sheath falling off.
