Here's a pic from Houston Price's Guide of a 3-5/8", XX 2345 1/2 P. Just trying to put a number on the OP from the "rules" , I would say it's a 63055 1/2 P meaning: a 3-1/2", rough black, equal-end CATTLE with a clip blade and punch. I don't claim any expertise in Case knives but...

A somewhat sad twist. The new owner wanted to take part of the signature off because it was signed to someone. Evidently he used some solvent that ate into the finish and messed up Les Paul's name too. A warning to us all. Know what you're doing when messing with modern finishes. Since nitrocellulos...

This company had upwards of a hundred different stampings over its lifetime, usually with the main name or logo and a descriptor. This knife is an early one. J.O'.
