Re: Collections, Sub-Collections and Family Group Photos
I couldn't believe it when I saw your bird knives. i picked this one up at an antique store in Minnesota and didn't know there were others out there! I'll be looking for more information now. They come from the Jezzine area of Lebanon, as I understand it. After I got my first of these I also discov...

Well, I received a box from OldeCutler yesterday...and what a box it is! Actually, it's just a regular Priority mail box--but the contents--now, that's another story! First is this lovely Lynx lockback knife made from a Jantz kit, with Culpepper autumn gold bone handles. The workmanship on this is j...

Re: Your one big regret
What is your one big regret? This is a lighter regret. Not romance or wish you would've been closer to your father, but those things you let pass by. Mine is quitting music lessons. I was playing trombone in elementary school and was also taking piano lessons. It's hard to focus on piano scales whe...

Re: Collections, Sub-Collections and Family Group Photos
Well, I have a collection of folding knives from different countries around the world, with about 60 countries represented. I also have a collection/accumulation of pearl handled knives, by manufacturer/tang stamp. I don't want to think about how many of those I have... I have a small accumulation o...

Russell Green River and Home Cutlery
I was nosing through bunch of stuff on my workbench, sorting out the knives I am never going to work on, as well as the knives that are beyond repair. I found a couple that I had not looked at much, because they are pretty far gone. However, I am keeping them, just because they are pretty historic (...

Re: Local groups
Has anyone on here tried coming up with other members local to them to enjoy showing their knives & swapping information? Is this even a topic allowed to be discussed on here? I would enjoy meeting up with other collectors in southwest ohio. Our gun & knife shows are few and far between and...

Re: Cattaraugus Cut Co
It does not, but it seems the tang is worn on the foil cutter (no snap to speak of), so it's possible it did at one time.galvanic1882 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 11:49 pm Nice Brent, when the foil cutter is closed if you press down on it does the corkscrew come up? It looks like it should. Korn patented corkscrew very rare!

I think it would be after 1901. Prior to that it would have said "Cutlers to HER Majesty" as Victoria was queen until 1901.

Re: 1850-1880 pocket knife
On the fourth photo, it looks like there may be a maker mark or some kind of marking on the tang (base of the blade). It's a little hard to tell because of the resolution, but a closer look may help. If you open the blade halfway, you might be able to see the mark a little better (if there is, indee...

Old Wostenholm knife
I picked this up off Fleabay, because I haven't seen this marking before. I have several Wostenholm knives, but this may be the oldest of them. If I'm not mistaken, the G (crown) R stands for George Rex (king), which would place it no later than 1830 (George V was king 1910-1936, and George VI from ...

Re: Celluloid Outgassing- an understanding
Another thing that should be taken into consideration is that nitrocellulose itself degrades over time and releases nitric acid. This does not require a galvanic action to attack just about any metal. So while this is an interesting idea, and may be a contributor to the degradation of our fancy kniv...

Broken Frame
I have two knives that have corroded and cracked frames (from outgassing handles). I do not have the wherewithal to repair these myself (I probably *could*, given time and all, but right now I have enough going on that I'm not going to go through the learning process, and these knives have been sitt...
