Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
It's been a while since this thread got bumped, so I thought I'd bring it up for the upcoming weekend. :) And I will apologize in advance for crappy picture quality; I had foot surgery recently and I'm laid up on crutches and a scooter without access to my light box and good camera. I have four 4-bl...

Re: A few knives, a few questions
Knife no. 2 is a non-Victorinox 108 mm German Army Knife, or GAK. Victorinox supplied this knife to the German military in the 1970's-80's, possibly later, until it was replaced by the still-serving 111 mm in the early 2000's. At some point in there, the 108 mm knife's construction, design, etc. was...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Here are 10 examples for this discussion and some eye candy for my fellow addicts. ::super_happy:: 9 of the Eagles on the shields look left, and only one looks to the right. The one that looks to the right is an Ulster Dwight Divine and sons version. That is in contrast to another in the set with b...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
I think the legend behind the Scout on that knife is that he once did a mile swim in a lake at a scout camp, while wrestling an alligator, all to save a mermaid! I could be wrong, I am getting old and my memory is fading. ::hmm:: ::groove:: When my son was coming up through Scouts and we were going...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Here are my Camillus semaphore scouts, one of which came from the AAPK store. :) I have a "Camp," a "Scout," and two "Standard Scouts." If anyone has a "Signal Scout" or a "Stainless Scout" that are surplus to requirements, I'd love them for my colle...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
I love the Boker (USA) 9361. I'm preparing an article on collecting this knife for my blog, and a good friend decided I should complete the situation with the 9361's modern descendant, the Böker Magnum Classic Pocket Steel. I've often pondered this knife, but could never bring myself to buy one (Asi...

Re: Oiling stag handles
I use mineral oil on jigged bone and stag scales. Just a little dab'll do ya. I use Ren Wax on fiber scales, like old SAKs and the like.

Nice SAK! I love it when you find one with an inlay that aligns with some interest or another brand that you like.
Enjoy!

Thank you, Bob! I totally agree about the frustration of minimally described knives on the 'bay. Drives me nuts as well.
I'm happy to take offers on this lot. They're kind of like kittens. I don't really care about the money and just want them to go to a good home.

FS: VINTAGE POCKET KNIFE LOT, HAMMER BRAND, IDEAL, COLONIAL.
A nice lot of vintage jack knives. All are functional and in good "user" shape, or could be for parts. I'm looking for $25, and I'll include 1st Class USPS shipping in the domestic US for that. I have them listed on eBay, too, so if they sell first there I'll have to withdraw this FS post....

Re: PayPal resolution
Very glad you've had resolution on your issue, but sorry to hear it took the intervention of a US Senator. I've run my own hobby business from PayPal for 10 years and had my account with them for several years longer than that. I've never had a problem or a dispute with them, not once in those many ...

Very nice knives, JohnR and Checkered Past!
I've picked up a few new scout pattern knives myself recently, but haven't taken any pictures of them yet. I will take some and post a few pics.

Re: Western States
Hi there. It's great that you've had your knife for so long. If you want to know everything there is to know about the Western States brand, there is a book called The Knife Makers Who Went West, by Harvey Platts, that is a history of this brand. It's out of print, but easily found second hand.

Such beautiful knives, and it's really great to learn about your father. I don't have one of his knives, but they are of obvious craft and beauty. It's always so great to hear the personal stories behind the tools. Thanks for posting.

Hi All, Just closing the loop on this, since I promised to come back with my donation receipt from the proceeds of this sale. I've attached it below. By the way, Cody6268 was a great buyer. I'd happily leave a reference for him, but I don't see that there is such a sub-forum on AAPK. Am I missing it...
