Noticed that unfortunately. Finding a bail to replace it would be an easy job?

Re: My search for a pre-WWII civilian/boy scout knife

Both Ulster Model 1502s I had my eyes on are gone. I very much like to get one of those, but since the Army issued P-38 can openers ad nauseam, having a knife with a can opener is not a conditio-sine-qua-non for me. So I was looking at other models that would also be historically accurate for the per...

Re: My search for a pre-WWII civilian/boy scout knife

Thank you all! This forum truly is a source of wisdom and knowledge! I will ditch the first knife posted. I guess the Ulster Model 1502 (manufactured 1923-26) would be perfect for me: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ULSTER-DWIGHT-DIVINE-SONS-USA-BONE-HANDLE-BOY-SCOUT-KNIFE/202784815883?hash=item2f3...

My search for a pre-WWII civilian/boy scout knife

Hello all, My search for a civilian or boy scout pocket knife (preferably with can opener and lanyard ring) dating to the 1920s or 1930s that I could use for a 1941-1944 US army soldier impression continues. Some have already helped me out in understanding that for soldiers in non-specialized roles ...

I understand! Thank you knifeaholic. I can't distinguish real bone handles from synthetic material handles. Any advice or pointers?

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

I wonder, for example, if either one of these two knives are period-correct and could be ok for me to use. Anybody can help in dating them?

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

I borrowed this picture from http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/259640-wwii-airborne-switchblades/ which you may find interesting. Lots of great military knife information on that website! US Militaria is an awesome place. Lots of info for sure, but in this specific case it's a...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Again, I want to thank y'all for your contributions to this threat and the help y'all are giving me for answering such a specific question, posed by somebody who is abysmally ignorant on the topic of pocket knives, for purposes other than collecting pocket knives. I truly appreciate it. I think you ...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

I finally was able to obtain copies of the Silvey books and read through them. Could I post pictures from it, without infringing on copyright? The Camillus pocket knife (also made by other companies) and normally marked USA on the shield is, according to Silvey, and Engineers knife (unlike the Pocke...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Go look at this thread - PX knives were non-issue knives ordered for stock in the PX and sold to Soldiers - good likelihood that your average Grunt or Doggie would have one of these if not carrying an issue pocketknife. I don’t think that has changed since WW-II; most Soldiers still carry a knife t...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Didn't civilian pocket knives in the 1930s and 1940s include also can opener and bottle opener? I very much like the idea of fielding a commercial / civilian pocket knife, because it gives character to an impression, provided that has at least a bottle opener. What were some common models sold comme...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Both knives you show would be classified as FARB, they were both made after WW2. No, the government did not just go out and buy a lot of pocket knives from all over and distribute them to troops. The government contracted with most but not all major American cutlery companies for specific knives. N...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

PvtRossi, here is a WW2 era Camillus utility knife made for the army. The USA on the shield is for US Army. These and ones by other companies were what preceded the all metal MIL-K knives. These would have been general issue knives, that is not made for specific units like the Ulster mountain troop...

Re: US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Guys, Thank you all for the plethora of information. I am a US WWII reenactor that tries to not be a "farb" (jargon for "not historically accurate") and hence the reason for my inquiry. Although soldiers were issued bayonets, veterans in the European and Mediterranean Theater ver...

US Army Pocket Knives of WWII

Greetings all, I know that 1944 saw the adoptiong of the Knife, Pocket, General Purpose. However, I have not been able to determine exactly what pocket knives would have been in use prior to that to regular GIs that were not specialized engineers, signal corps men, linemen, paratroopers etc. I have ...
