That's a very classy pair of knives. They did a super job of picking out some nice handle material and it looks like the did a great job of taking care of all the details.

Re: Whittling gloves
It doesn't take very many stitches to make the special glove seem like a pretty good idea. If you decide to go with a leather glove, you can improve its puncture resistance by wrapping a few layers of duct tape around the parts that are likely to sustain contact with the cutting edge.

I'd say probably the Tinker, although the Alox Pioneer is a pretty close second.

Re: the TEK X
I am not enthused about any of the Tec-X offerings, but I can understand why Case is doing it. There are a lot of folks who want a cheap knife and they don't care where it is made. Many companies have offerings aimed at that part of the market. In addition, I don't think demand for the tradtional kn...

Bowl
I'm a pretty lazy whittler/carver, but occasionally I actually finish something up. This is my third bowl. The wood is butternut. It's a gift for my youngest sister and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Re: Why don't people like all metal or pearl knives as much?
I prefer the look of wood and bone, but also am under the impression that pearl isn't as tough as some of the other materials, although if I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time. Since I don't like the look and I don't want to have to give it special treatment, I stay away from it.

Re: A.G Russell 2011 Texas Ranger Knife
If I wanted a big, one-hand opener with a blade that thunks open I'm not sure a toothpick would be the first knife I looked at, even if it is in A.G.'s Texas Ranger series.

The regular Whaler grosses me out. The clip blade is much more to my liking.
