Re: Requesting prayer for my father and the family.
I rejoice in knowing that your Dad has a place in Heaven, and I know that the Lord will bring you peace and comfort, yet it is normal and healthy to experience grief.
Am lifting up you and your family in prayer.

Re: Removing unwanted etching on blades?
I would start with a Scotch-brite pad and a light oil. Scrub by hand in the same direction aa the grind marks, which is "short ways" back and forth from spine to edge. If that is not enough, a 400-grit sandpaper will be a bit more aggressive.

Re: Swiss army knife whittling for a beginner, okay or big no?
I once knew generations of old men who stood out in front of the County Courthouse who might offer a different opinion! Those old gentlemen carried sharp knives and cedar sticks, and could whittle out long, perfectly curled shavings all day! I believe that pocket knives work well for whittling if yo...

Re: Toyokazu Switchblade
That "scrat" jigging pattern on the bone is definitely Japanese, but I would have guessed it was from the 1950's or 60's, though I am certainly no expert, and hope to learn more. I personally would do as little cleaning to it as possible. Every mark, scratch, and tarnished spot tells a sto...

Re: Maple Syrup time for 2024
I have two sugar maple trees, but have not tried tapping them or making syrup. I doubt that it would turn out well since it doesn't stay very cold here in Alabama. I have the story on how these came this far South: We got saplings from a good friend of the family. The man was an awesome knife mechan...

Re: Winchester 1920
The inletting around the shield and shield pins look bad. I believe it to have been rehandled, at best. The front bolster also looks oddly flat to me, but I am absolutely NOT familiar enough with Winchester knives to say for sure. It just reminds me of some earlier Parker knives made in Alabama. So ...

Re: 4 Blade Congress
Without having it in hand, I am going to say that those handles are jigged bone. I am more confident that the pile side is bone. The mark side looks a little different. Search on this site for "haversin canals", then study the knife with a magnifying glass.
