Re: Hear of a Good One Lately
My Pop kept a coop of chickens his entire adult life ( I don't know why, we never ate one )... So, one night, when I was about 4 or 5, this coon got in the chicken coop. Old Black Bart, a HUGE old rooster that the old man had caponized when he was young, gave that coon "what for", but even...

Re: What's the Army coming to?
I can second what Wullie said - my Pop served alongside (not with) a contingent of Ghurka's, over in N. Africa. He told me, on several occasions, they were the toughest hombres he was ever around. Having defended the history of the previous generation's soldiers, tho'.... It should be pointed out, t...

Hey Jaye,
My little brother is chasing birds this spring, also. Do you want left-wing or right-wing ? (He's not the best hunter in the family, so I may not have either one.)

Well, your old hand wasn't much to look at, before the surgery. But I've seen it look better, bud. Take it easy, do what the therapist sez. You have my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hey Mr. Fred, Yessir, that's a Falcon - '61 or '62, I can't remember that much detail. It was my buddy's, and we called it the "Foul Coon" - what a piece of junk ! I think they used the front-end out of a soapbox derby or something, we replaced ball joints pretty often. I couldn't even cra...

Yeah Fran,
The Moon Wagon had wall-to-wall rug in the back, right out of somebody's parlor. Pure wool, with a huge red rose in the middle ! Kinda hard on the elbows and knees, but the extra space was well worth it !
For those that haven't seen it - here's the original "Moon Wagon"....

I think I scored 26...or was it 27 ? Can't remember, now. Momma had an all-electric washing machine - I wasn't "allowed" to help with laundry until I was about 8 or 9, 'cause she got her hand caught in the wringer one time. It flattened her fingers, but she got a new ring out of the ordeal...

Re: Question on WWII Remington Pal knives
Well, chrome is quite soft, compared to the steel. Rockwell is in the 20's, I think. So, on a working knife, it's gonna scratch, and allow the corrosion to start in the scratches. MOST people that sharpen with a stone will, at some point, drag the sides of the blade against the stone, and wear away ...

Re: Question on WWII Remington Pal knives
I'm not an "authority", Wild Man...but I would be surprised if they did. If you have an example, with a high-polish, it just might be chrome-plated carbon steel. That was a popular finish, for a few years - post war. I have a Case example of chrome-plate, and it's readily apparent, if you ...

I'm not familiar with 61S-BL, even a little bit - can't even find it, in my limited reference. But what Hukk said is the straight scoop. Stnls damascus is seldom worth the time, effort, or expense. Not even hinting at discouraging your effort - you might very well find a method to beat 'em all. Just...

Hi Guys, Observations on using DMSO as a penetrant, to carry dye into bones... Even a teeny-tiny bit of DMSO on the skin will absolutely, totally ruin the taste of good beer in your mouth. A solution of DMSO and leather dye will stain formica, instantly, and ( I guess ) permanently. Bon-Ami won't re...

I almost never like double-ended knives,
But that Western is just like hot biscuits, Johnnie -- it really melts my butter ! Don't ever lay that one down, on the tailgate of the truck (unless it's parked in my back yard).
Bravo,
JR
