Re: Dog's Head Oddity

Hey Ridgegrass,
Can’t explain the dogs head engraved on the bolster but I will say that the jigging and color on the scales are correct for the period (20’s-early 30’s). I have been collecting Union and KA-BAR for a long time and I have a couple with those same scales. It’s all good.

Re: Just a few Kabars, or KA-BARs I have

eveled, just read your reply in which you said that Ka Bar isn’t noted for their pocket knives. I beg to differ. To knowledgeable collectors, the Union Cutlery brand (which evolved into Ka Bar) is very highly regarded. Their quality is on at least par with Case, Queen, and other brands made during t...

Re: KA-BAR Knife ID and Questions

Hi Sasquach, your Kabar is definitely from the 60’s. Have a number of that era and they make great edc’s. The delrin handled Kabars don’t have a lot of value but they are good quality, sturdy knives. I believe this one was made during the period when Cole owned Kabar.

Re: CASE 11, 11-1/2, 11-1/2L and Cheetah thread

When I first started collecting back in the late 60’s to early 70’s, the pattern was called the “lock back” as that was pretty much the only locking blade pattern Case made during that time period. The number of locking bladed knive patterns exploded in the mid 70’s with the introduction of the Buck...

Re: Kabar stag folding hunter

Looks to be a Ka-Bar Collectors Club Knife. If so it would be from the 80’s-90’s era. Check the rear tang stamp, it may have a stamp like CK 92 or some such. The digits indicate year of manufacture. Pretty knife.

Re: What year did Case stop pinning shields ?

Hi Steve, I’m sure we have met back in the day. George was such a knowledgeable man in many areas. Men like him are few and far between. Have a Merry Christmas!

Re: What year did Case stop pinning shields ?

Hi Steve, I first met George in the mid 60’s when I was pretty young. I would see him as Dad and I attended the local Detroit area gun shows. When I was old enough to drive, I went to gun shows pretty much on a weekly basis. At that time most of the shows I attended were the Michigan Antique Arms sh...

Re: What year did Case stop pinning shields ?

I have a delrin handled 61048 SSP (satin finish) USA tang stamp that does in fact have a pinned shield. There is also evidence around the edges of the shield where it was “melted” on. This shield isn’t going anywhere! Have had this knife in my collection since about 1967. Bought it from George Gorin...

Re: Casexx display

Nice display and knives. Guessing the display are in the 10-15 year old range. Check the tang stamp to get exact knife age.

Case knife shields

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of the high number of shields that Case is and has been using for the past couple of decades? It was bad enough when they stopped using pins on them to save money (how many of yours have fallen out?). Many of them simply look cheap. I wish they would return to t...
