Re: Traditional Pocket Knives explained by a couple of Millennials

I just watched the follow up video...they poked fun at themselves for being rather uneducated regards to slip joints. I remember when I got a copy of Levines guide to knives in the mid 90's. I poured over it like it was a bible and I was in seminary school. I bet over time as their knowledge of trad...

Help me buy a real kukri!

I'm just overwhelmed looking at getting my first real kukri from Nepal. I'm looking for what would be considered a standard issue model. The pricing, shipping cost, and overall confusion of what I'm actually paying for has my head spinning. Anyone here have any suggestions? I'd like to buy one state...

Question on the "pre 86" regarding Buck

Looking at the knives for sale I see some listings as "pre 86" under the buck category that seem to be asking premium pricing. My question is are the bucks made pre 86 that much better than the new stuff made in Idaho as compared to California for the older stuff? Or is it just the rarer a...

Anyone rehandling case knives in stag?

Any one putting stag covers on older case knives these days? 32 and 47 patterns respectively. These are not collectable per se but rather everyday users so the shield wouldn't have to be pinned back on unless its feasible. They currently sport chestnut bone. I would of course pay up front and shippi...

Re: Question on 1st deer processing knife

Thank you all for the points in the right direction. This should be a good learning experience luck willing. It appears there are a few thousand ways to process a deer and no absolutes as there will be a lot of variables. For nostalgia's sake I'd like to try an old school 50's and 60's era stacked le...

Question on 1st deer processing knife

Hello everyone, just looking at thoughts and opinions on my first deer processing knife. (I'm 50 and just bought my first rifle, lol late to the party.) After looking at my co workers skinning rigs I noticed they dont use "hunting knives" as marketed by knife makes. They all seem to have s...

Re: Case Outlander knife?

Thanks all for the responses. $125 is in line for a mint in the box with accessories. Even the survival kit stuff was still wrapped in factory packaging. If I had the dough I'd buy it for knifaholic as a gift.

I do have a harbor freight near me. I should just spend $40 and get the grinding wheel. I could polish metal to. I need to you tube a basic set up.

Re: Pitbull Or Bulldog

This is sorta on topic but a personal view nonetheless. I always disliked the two dogs fighting logo. Years ago I saw a documentary on dog fighting. I was disgusted and appalled at the whole concept. It made me physically sick to my stomach. I traded off some knives with that stamp for that very rea...

Making dull bone shine?

A question regarding older bone handle knives. Almost all my older case knives have a nice sheen on the bone. Some more glossy than others. I have a 65-69 era reddish bone peanut that is just flat out dull on the scales. I've tried some oil and nothing. Then flitz with no luck either. Anything to ma...

Re: Sheepsfoot vs cardboard boxes

I agree the classic stanley boxcutter is the most efficient .....and some of the newer razor knives are kinda cool. Hell, I just saw a $140 razor knife somewhere for sale. (that is another thread for discussion for sure) A classic pocketknife though has style, grace and often a provenance in its his...

Sheepsfoot vs cardboard boxes

Is there any thing better (other than a cheap box cutter) that just destroys cardboard like a good carbon steel sheepsfoot? I think I use it more than any other blade especially at work. Our policy is no cardboard goes into the dumpster unless its broken down first. Now is the time to discuss with t...

He said he never lost consciences and had to crawl 150 feet to his cell phone. It got caught in a grain auger according to the news report I saw. Anybody know what knife he had? I'm keeping my cellphone on me at all times doing stuff like this from now on.

Arizona legalized nunchucks.

Not exactly knife related per se, but with nunchucks being taken off the prohibited weapon list in Arizona this week is it possible that butterfly knives will follow? As a kid in the 80's i grew up with balisongs, nunchucks , katanas and various other items you could purchase in the back of kung fu ...

Knife cleaner for carbon steel?

Ive been using a product called EEZOX that I found in a gun store that sells a lot of antique firearms. They say its the best bare none for old blued guns and carbon steel. It was fairly cheap ( $8.00 ) so i tried a can. It smells good actually and seems to work rather well. Any ideas on this produc...

Re: Thoughts on case metal handle pen knives

Thanks mumbly peg. The scissor info is great. Best gear I will be hunting one with good snap as always! My thought process on these knives is to buy one as a quality everyday beater, one I can open boxes at work and occasionally get wet and not worry about putting it back in my pocket for a few hour...
