Re: Buck paklite 143 in orange?
I do remember seeing the Paklite series with orange traction. They may have been Walmart of Academy Sports exclusives. Both retailers have sold orange Buck knives.

Re: Solingen-made folders
I had not heard about this. Went to the Boker site and checked to see what "traditional pocket knives" were listed and you may be right. There were no "Solingen" stockmans, but they do have barlows and trappers. Some had the "coming soon" on the listing. I don't think B...

That is so great. I have gifted quite a few but they've gone up in price so much lately. Maybe next year gift a sharpening block to help him learn to keep it sharp.

Re: J.A. Henckels Zwilling Solingen- What is this?
During the war era a lot of the Solingen knife companies were making more tools than knives. It looks to be some kind of a chisel. But then the hole in the handle makes me think it may be more of a kitchen utensil for scraping. The 41 may be the designated size or model. It could have been part of a...

Looks like one of the China made Gerber's. Sort of looks like a Bear Grylls model but I don't see his signature on the blade. Probably not worth very much.

I believe it's meant to be displayed in full length with blade locked. That's why it's as long as it is.RedRaiderRick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 25, 2023 11:02 pm The oversized presentation case seems dumb. But this is really sweet knife! Certainly bigger and heavier than the Boker Barlow next to it.

Re: Factory Boxes
Yes it does add value to the knife. Not so much now but in 20+ years you'll see that Case will have updated the look of their boxes several times and then trying to find one from today will become harder. If a knife is meant to be a beater, it won't matter. But if it's meant as part of a collection,...

Good looking Wenger. When I first saw the title to this thread though I was expecting to see a "bird & trout" knife, which are smaller hunting style fixed blades. I really like the trout etching on this though.

Nice collection! I own a few of those Western knives as well and one with Lou Gherig, the baseball player. I believe these were mainly from the Novelty Knife Co. which went defunct in 1948.

Really like that bolster. It's the coat of arms for the city of Solingen, which is also seen on their flag. Solingen is known as the "city of blades".

Blade is 6/1/8 oal 10 Termite, I came across this one on Ebay which has the same length and also has the corkscrew/can opener in the handle, and the Aztec calendar stamping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/165985064268?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=yX774J2yS6m&sssrc=204767...

Re: Mexican fixed blade knife
Definitely has all the aesthetics of German craftsmanship. Reminiscent of old school Othello, Puma, Gutmann, etc. I have seen a lot of Edge Brand Solingen knives from the 60s with a very similar look and design. What's the blade length/overall length?

Re: Repairing a badly beat up vintage Buck 110
I still think Buck could do a pretty decent job restoring it. Their guys take pride in getting older knives to work on. I have sent knives in terrible condition that came back and impressed me. Some were 110's with cracks and chips in the wood and they somehow smoothed them out. Have sent a broken b...

Re: Repairing a badly beat up vintage Buck 110
Send it to Buck but make sure to note in the paperwork that you DO NOT want the blade replaced. You have a very early 110 with the upside down, also called inverted tang stamp (1967-72). Its value will go down if you replace the blade. These are sought after by collectors. Buck can resharpen and mak...

It doesn't matter if it's USA made with foreign parts. In today's global economy it's almost impossible not to get away from that. If you go to a five star restaurant in the USA and the head chef makes you his special, does it matter if the cook wear was made overseas, spices and ingredients came fr...

Re: Solinger?
Without any marks or stamps it's just an unknown. Could be made in Solingen, but could very well be made in China as well. All I can say is that it's an old school fixed hunting knife design. If it's vintage that sheath is definitely not original to time period.

Below is taken from Hen & Rooster's website (https://www.henandrooster.com/About/). James Frost basically owns the name under U.S. trademark and these knives are currently made in either China or Spain. Robert Klaas owns the German trademark and still makes them in Solingen but under limited qua...
