Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
After running nekkid for a couple of weeks it good to tote sumpin again. What's that small one bighomer? Is that a Trapper? A Jack? Or is it a cigar? ::shrug:: It looks interesting. ::hmm:: Just curious what it's called? And who made that one? Thanks for the info. I'm still learning. Tom ...

Re: 108OT long pull
Thanks KnifeSlinger. The tang stamp was also XX'ed out as a factory 2nd due to some factory error. I don't know if that's relevant. the sheepsfoot blade was bent sideways and rubbed against the pen blade. That was so easily fixed I'm wondering if there's another fault that I'm missing completely. Je...

Re: 108OT long pull
..... A 108ot from 1967 would be schrade walden stamped and have a long pull. The one you show is a post 1973 knife and was also made after they stopped using long pulls on the main. IMG_5493.JPG Does this mean that my long pull was made before 1973? Or maybe later but with a long pull blade that h...

I thought maybe my long pull might indicate an approximate date. The nail nick seems more popular.

Re: Ulster Old Timers
I recently found out about the Ulster 58OT (thanks kj) but my research turned up two measurements, 2 3/4 " and 3 1/4 ". Which is correct? They don't seem very available, probably a short run or special order. Does any other more popular knife of the same size use the same pattern, especial...

Re: I've got the world's finest at last...
 You guys never fail to surprise. Instead of getting beat over the head I'm getting favorable responses. I suppose " Finest " is rather more vague than saying "Best Pocket Knife ", so we can excuse Schrade for their pride in the 897UH which turned out to be probably the long...

::ds:: I actually have the "World's Finest Pocket Knife" ::ds:: ,and I have the evidence to prove it because that's how Schrade introduced the line back in1967 ::nod:: ,( see Orvet's detailed write up about it in his store.(pg. eight ) So if you think you have another knife which is the Wo...

Top to bottom: tiger maple, Ipe (Brazilian walnut I think), recon stone.
Left to right: lignum vitae, Macassar ebony, recon stone, stabilized spalted wood.

Re: Barlow Scales?
I wood choose good old warm natural wood with its almost infinite choices, from traditional maple to Brazilian Ipe with its fire rating of steel and concrete and it'll last forever.
There's also colorful recon stone which is a good durable substitute for celluloid.

Re: Stainless Cutlery Co. New York City
Thanks for clearing that up guys. 3 3/8 exactly. The sellers picture didn't show the gassing out but he said it is celluloid. There may even be a thin shiny clear coat varnish covering the scales and bolsters but I can't be sure. So now I have an interesting (gassing out ) conversation piece for $27...

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Just got this. What do you make of the "celluloid" scales? They look transparent on the underlying green tarnish of brass liners. You can see the transparency from the shadow thrown by the center pin and the shield. Is celluloid ever transparent like clear...

Re: Shipping knives from Canada to the USA
My local post office is run 99% by women who balk at the sight of a pen knife, and when I show them the official brochure which states that "sharp-edged or pointed items if packed correctly may be posted", they say that, even if they let them through, the knives will probably be blocked fu...

I still can't fathom how knives that are so much older than me can still look so much younger than me.
Maybe it's because they are unused, unlike me.
