Re: Whats your newest addition to your Buck family and why?
I bought this 110 in 1993 and gave it to my brother who never used it. He recently gave it back to me, so I gave him a 112 Slim Select. I started carrying it to work about a month ago and now I can't go without it.

Thanks. Most days I carry the garden-variety wood and brass 112.Old Hunter wrote: ↑Wed Sep 29, 2021 1:30 pm Bastler, that is a fine collection of many variations of the Buck 112 you have there. Which is your preferred to use? OH

Rainer Morsbach uses the k55k mark. Here is a link that might be helpful, if your German is better than mine.

Perhaps this video by Herr Schmalhaus will answer some questions regarding the Mercator folder and Otter Messer. I believe that your knife is a different Mercator altogether.

Re: Buck 110 slim lock at SMKW
I have a Buck 112 Slim with the micarta handle and I find it to be the same quality as the traditional brass and wood 110s and 112s. It makes a great work knife. If you want a Buck with a thumb stud and pocket clip, the Slims are worth considering.

Re: Buck 110 and 112 slim hunter
I have a Buck 1112 slim, an 110 LT and an old Bucklite 422 here in front of me. The plastic handles are pretty rigid on all of them, but the blade in the LT is so loose that it wiggles like a ducks arsch. I actually held the handle in place against my work bench and measured the vertical movement in...

Re: Bear & Sons not collectible?
I wanted to like Bear and Son, but after two tries, I gave up. The quality on both was rather shocking, especially since the price was comparable to other US-made knives.

I paid $10 delivered. But when I bought the original, $1.49 was a lot of dough.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
My latest E-bay score is a near duplicate of my first knife, as close as I can remember 50 years later. I paid $1.49 for the original at the Katz drug store. They thought nothing of selling a knife to a little kid back then.

Re: A special knife passed down to me. What is your special knife?
Not my knife, or my story, really. A friend asked my to restore the Schrade penknife that her late husband carried for years. She thought I would return it shiny and sharp and was surprised to see that I had just oiled it. I told her that Joe put every mark on that knife and I meant to leave it that...

Re: Do you prefer stainless or carbon steel?
Carbon or stainless is a very broad question. Today's stainless steel comes in many formulations and heat treatments. Modern metallurgy is slow to reach the traditional knife market, so we compare carbon to "Surgical Stainless" and similar steels. We have to choose between style and perfor...

Re: Whats your newest addition to your Buck family and why?
$20 E-bay 500 that I modified to a bare head. Those steel bolsters were harder than I anticipated and the seller didn't mention that the liners were bent and it wouldn't snap closed. A bit of a challenge for my first try. The walnut for the covers came from a friend who died last year and the inspir...

Do you remove and peen the rear bolster pins back into place or do they remain secure? I plan to modify a 500 to a barehead.
