Re: what is it? any help appreciated
Probably no more than 25 years old at best. I remember seeing those in Parkers catalog and in some of the Smoky Mountain catalogs too in the mid 1990s. Parker bought a large number of long-unused trademarks in the 1980s and used them indiscriminately on anything he thought he could sell.

Why? Did you ask? There is a lot of KKK stuff sold regularly on Ebay. Genuine vintage KKK stuff is quite collectible it seems.I understand that ebay is not possible due to the offensive nature of the knife

You may want to use real oil on the pivot pins, not graphite powder. Graphite powder will retain moisture like a sponge, and moisture will cause rust.

The problem with powdered graphite is it holds moisture. Moisture + steel = bad.

Re: Oil to protect metal parts but not damage scales
Mineral oil is generally recommended for preserving bone scales. It shouldn't harm them at all. As for plastiic, it depends on just what it is. If its real old it may be celluloid based, in which case you want to keep any petroleum product far away. Exposure to petroleum based oil can trigger cellul...

Re: I need help idenifying a knbife
Better pics would help. However, its a trapper pattern, and the blade shapes appear German in origin. They are quite similiar to those produced by Olbertz, maker of Bulldog and other brands. Their trapper patterns have pretty distinct blade designs. May or may not be relevant but the S&D logo wa...

Re: What kind of Pocket Knife is this?
That pattern is whats generally known today as a half whittler. The handles look to be red dyed stag. As to the file work, age and whether its been apart you would need to find someone who is familiar with construction techniques and details of the period and maybe find a catalogue showing similiar ...

Maybe an early Case, possibly a Case Bradford? Looks a lot like a 6228 pattern.

Are there marking on the blade? The outside markings don't have much bearing on who made it or where.

The knife in question on the left, a Camillus Sword Brand scout from the early 1940s on the right. Punch is the same, both are made by Camillus. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v375/arathol/punch2.jpg The Robeson punch looks somewhat like the Camillus design but the groove is wider and the tang ha...

Definitely Camillus, probably 1940s. Just look at the design of the punch, its the same as the one used on 4-line Camillus scouts.

Providence Cutlery was founded by the same Paolantonio family that started Colonial Cutlery, and that same family is still making knives. The knife in the above post is most likely from Nixdorf, probably imported early on in the 20th century (between WW1 the mid 1920s) by the Paolantonio brothers be...

Re: What is a "Jack Knife"
Theres more than one answer to this question, and no real answer. The French answer is above, however, the term jack knife seems to be of American origin. The folding knife is centuries old, but the first use of the term jack knife doesn't appear until the early 18th century. The Scots had a clasp k...

Re: The Rarest of the Case Bros.!
That is an older Utica Kutmaster cattle knife, rehandled and stamped with a bogus mark. The recurve shape of the master blade (not sharpened, made that way) and the square corner on the sheepsfoot blade are dead ringers for 50s and 60s Utica-made knives.

I looked at the other knives he had listed and they appeared to be the real thing. Yes they are real. They exist, they are knives, you can buy them and hold them in your hand and cut stuff. Other than that theres nothing real about Bretts junk. FYI, he has a partner/friend/alter ego named Jim who s...

I don't know.............maybe its one of those knives that Jim Parker sold a while back. The story was that he found a bunch of old parts and used them to make knives carrying the Primble Belknap stamp.

yes, theres dots in the middle of some. Random chance, yes. Thats where the engraver randomly paused for a brief second. Those dots are what you get if you don't keep the tool moving. They don't have to be at the end of a line, they can be anywhere. Again, why would you go to the trouble to stamp a ...

Some think he is Brett-whatever, and is selling under a different name. Either he is Brett or he is working with him. There was a long discussion on another forum concerning this subject a year or so ago, and both Brett and Mosh ended up posting in their own defense and it seemed they knew each oth...
