Re: Any chance of a sticky for fixed blade Schrades?
Working on a layout to display my Schrade Aurum Bowies. Top left, Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms with sterling fittings (Only 6 blades made, less finished) Below that is the Mountain Man Scene which is what is on the back of the above knife (1of 3 made to test etch design). Below that is C...

Re: Schrades are better in groups
Schrade prices are all over the place and a lot of asking prices are just plain crazy. On the other hand many of the better knives, IMHO, are great deals and should bring more than they do. So I take my own advice as a collector, buy it because you like it, do not look at it as an investment. If the...

Re: Schrades are better in groups
Finally filled up this display. The problem was not finding the knives, but finding them at the right price. My last one was the NKCA Founders knife, finally found one with nice fat stag at a price I was willing to pay ($135 plus tax and shipping). The one that took the most searching was the Villag...

Re: Aurum etched stag set
The knives were an Aurum product but they did not make the knives, I believe they are Alcas knives. They etched, advertised and sold their early products thenselves. As to value that could change on any given day, as a set they are worth less than when sold by the piece. I would estimate the set aro...

Re: Case XX Tested identification
Definitely a newer frame, stamp looks fishy at best, blade has been heavily worked, shield is a newer shield (90's?). Just looks like a knife that was interned to cheat someone out of their money. Over the years I have seen many fakes, some really good, some really bad, there is always a fraudster r...

Re: Keep or sell
Technically they are not a set, they are individual protos. I would recommend if selling, to sell by the piece. As far as selling your collection you would get more by the piece. I have sold both ways, the only reason I ever sold a set as a set, was more personal, I just did not want to break them u...

Re: Help with collection
Nice display. Value has a lot to do with what part of the country you are in, as odd as it might seem Case knives sell better in certain areas than others, ie, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Georgia. An intact display should carry a little premium as there are not that many around. Remem...

Just arrived today, the Schrade DU Flyways set, one of 100 sets made. Two stag PH2's, one in red micarta and one in maple. These sets come up rarely and never thought I would own one. Now I will have to sell my singe DU bowie that matches the one in the set, do not need two

Re: Vale - Douglas Wayne Webber - (dweb 1897)
I hated to hear of Doug's passing. Doug and I had a mutual fondness for the Aurum etched knives, he had a few I wanted and I a few he wanted, that's how collecting goes. We bought/sold between each other knives and did some trading, stand up guy. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He told me of his ...

There were to blade set ups made in that time period for that pattern, master blade front and master blade back. The value seems to be the same for either set up.

Just got these this week. They are prototypes made for J Russell Green River Works in 1977. The etching is done by Aurum Etchings. Per Sam Shortes of Aurum Etchings there were less than six made of each knife and there was no production run made. Sam Shortes stated that these were utility knives and...

From time to time they made a special edition knife that was contracted through a US manufacturer, but I would say 99+% was made over seas.

Re: Smith & Wesson Collectors Series
It is my understanding that S&W forged the blades in their factory but the knives were finished (handles etc.) by Carolina Knives. Yes there are very substantial knives. The estimated production numbers of the regular issue knives are: Texas Ranger Bowie...20,000 Bowie...15,000 Outdoorsman...13,...

Smith & Wesson Collectors Series
In 1975 S&W started a set of four knives referred to as the Collectors Series. Each knife was to be serial numbered 1 to 1000 and the production ended by 1980. The blades were etched and the guard and pommels were sculpted sterling silver. The general consensus is that only 800 complete sets wer...

PB132289.JPG PB132290.JPG The first Buck "Custom" from the custom shop was in 1981. It was a large 903 pattern stag bowie. This knife was made for Cutlery World and came in a walnut presentation box and retailed for $600. From my research there were 3 variations, the prototypes and 1-14 h...

I agree, looks like a Jim Sargent job. He did lots of "special" knife boxed knives that sold at quite a premium but not a real big secondary market for them.

Definitely a re-handle job. Blade looks real but the "HAND MADE IN THE USA" appears to have been done with engraving pic from the pics.

It is a very inexpensive import from China, wholesaled by a box of twelve. I do not recall a specific name but if memory serves the were around a $1.00 each or $12.00 a box.

Picked up this little cutie at a live auction today. Nice aged ivory micarta scales that have been scrimshawed. 6 1/2" overall with a 2 3/4" blade. Signed Lappin, USA. I am not familiar with the maker but it is a nice little knife.
