Re: the stainless military utuility knife

Thanks, Mike, the ones I remember seeing I'm pretty sure had a bail, but I'm not 100% on that. The rivets are tight on this so it doesn't look like there is anything missing, here's the tang stamp. A few different companies produced these right? Do you think maybe Camillus may have left off the bail...

the stainless military utuility knife

Hey guys, did all of these knives come with a bail loop? This one is a Camillus 19712 model and it does not have a bail, did some come this way or was this one broken off or replaced? doesn't look tampered with. Thanks for any help with this.

tang stamp

Does anyone know what knife company used the words 'HIGH CARBON STEEL USA' on their blade tang? I saw it in three lines. (high carbon on top, steel in the middle, than usa on the bottom) Thanks.

Re: sharpening novice needs guidance

Thanks guys, great stuff. I'm going to use the marker trick on the featherweight. its got some sharpness to it now so I don't think it will need a whole lot of work. I have a few old imperials and hammers that I hear were made with good steel and will take an edge so i will practice on those. And I'...

Re: sharpening novice needs guidance

Thanks Steve. I should have made myself more clear, I tried this time here for 15 minutes but I have tried probably a 1/2 dozen different times over the past 2 years since I got the stone but didn't seem to get any kind of result after about 15 minutes or so, so I guess I got a little miffed that I ...

sharpening novice needs guidance

Well, as much as I would like to think I can do anything, when it has come to sharpening, I don't know jack :) I have tried on a few occasions and the results were, well, there were none. I may have made it duller. ::dang:: Anyhow, what I have right now is a Case Moon stone, or man made Novaculite. ...

Schrade Walden Scout/camper

Anyone know the years that the 4 blade Schrade scout type knife with the round Schrade-Walden shield were made? I haven't seen enough of them to get an idea of value, so what do you think one in VG+ condition would be worth? Sorry, no photo at this time. Thanks.

Christmas tree handle on a fixed blade

I was wondering if anyone saw the Western Christmas tree handle fixed blade that just sold recently on eBay for $125 and change. It was the first i had seen and was pretty interested. I did bid but kept my cap at $100.00 so I lost the auction. Just wondering if anyone had info on these fixed blades ...

case knife show this month

I was wondering if anyone knows what the event is like? I went to the 2012 convention and they had workers polishing and sharpening knives, raffles, hat pin trades, and a large tent with lots of seller tables. Is this one going to be like that? with the hat pin and knife giveaways? I started collect...

Re: is this done on purpose?

Well, the majority opinion is a broken blade by way of prying or doin something ya ain't supposed to do with a blade! So I bought the lot of knives the fella was selling that contained the scout knife in question. I imagine I will have them by the weekend. I will look it over and get some better pho...

Re: is this done on purpose?

Thanks for the feedback, I also believe it was done purposely. It looks too clean, but then I read orvets post and again I wonder. The fact that the 'break' starts curved then suddenly a kind of 90-degree angle then its straight cut. ::hmm:: Just doesn't look accidental to me. Any more comments will...

Thanks, Jerry, I needed to see that. I get complacent sometimes, and in these days that could be a very dangerous thing. I will do all I can to give support where it's needed. Re: is this done on purpose?

Thanks, Ken. That's what I thought, but I had seen this knife on 3 occasions on eBay at 3 different times, 2 years between views in one case. For a minute I thought there may have been a reason because the shape of the cutout looks almost purposely done, with a curve leading to a straight edge, with...

is this done on purpose?

I have seen this cut-out on a BSA blade more than once and was wondering what the purpose was? Or could it be that I have seen the same knife 3 or 4 times?
Can anyone help me out with this one?
