Re: Help identifying this Case Tested XX

I have a copy of Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery and I don't see that stamp anywhere in there that looks like that one. I sure find it hard to believe anyone would fake a $20 knife but I can't find a circle C stamp that uses a C,A or E like those.

Re: Case 5279 question??

That knife looks to me to have more questions than answers,I've never seen a shield on a Case knife that the letters were worn off that you couldn't see the pins and if it's worn from pocket wear, why is it only worn smooth on one side.

Re: CAN I ASK THIS HERE--NOT SURE WHAT TO DO....

Just my 2 cents but there are a few things that I don't like ending on a Sunday night,it seems to me that there are a lot more knives listed on a Sunday than any other day.I prefer to end knives on a Thursday evening.

Re: W.R. Case & Sons / Made in U.S.A.

As to the second knife,I've never seen that shield on a Case knife,Whitchers book does say that stamp was used mostly on contract knives but the stamp on the knife isn't the same as the one shown in his book.I think the stamp on the auction knife looks like it's engraved.I don't like the pattern num...

Nobody is going to be able to tell you much about that knife from that picture, try putting the knife on a gray surface or even take it outside on a wood surface.

There's quite a bit of blade missing for a knife that wasn't used very much.

That's not "old Case stag",it looks like the stag Case uses now.I know that Case used that stamp recently,my thoughts are,it's a new long tail C knife but I thought there were some other distinquishing features of the new knives.

Re: Help me identify???

That is a nice old horsemans knife,I'm thinking that one looks German made, most of the Sheffield knives that I've seen don't have the smooth scales like that.I can't believe that it wouldn't be marked,it would be on the master blade and you'll probably need a good magnifying glass or a jewelers loup...

Here's a couple pics of the only 2 CS knives that I own and the only 2 I've ever handled, the trapper is polished on both sides, the muskrat isn't,you can see a difference in the muskrat,it isn't that big.

Re: New collector

If you look at the scales under magnification,a jewelers loupe works best, you'll see tiny holes and imperfections in a bone scale where the blood flowed though the bone, delrin won't have those imperfections,it will generally look smoother, especially on the edges. There is a difference in the hardness...

Re: NEED HELP IDENTIFYING SOME OLD KNIVE

That Griffon knife is nice, looks to be in very good condition, the German made Griffons are usually worth more than the US made, but it's still a very nice knife. The Remington looks to be a newer knife, probably made by Camillus,I'd have to see better pictures but the scales look like delrin and it has...

There is no denying that there is a huge market for military items, and some big money being spent, that always brings out the worst in people. At least the first guy didn't mention Civil War in the auction, just in the title and he didn't end up getting much for the knife anyway. With so much informatio...

Re: What are the differences between the 2n,8n and 9n fords?

I can see why they are saying it's a 1947,but from what I'm looking at something isn't adding up.I've check three sources, all three say that 1943 is the last year for the 9N,the first serial number for 1943 is 105412,I know they didn't make 160,000 tractors in 1943.The first serial number on a 1947 ...

Re: What are the differences between the 2n,8n and 9n fords?

I have a book with serial numbers in that I always went by for other makes,I know appearance wise, those little Fords all look the same, there is differences in tire size and the 9N doesn't have 3pt hitch, does it?

Re: What are the differences between the 2n,8n and 9n fords?

One of the books that I have lists 9N from 1939-1943,2N from 1942-1947 and 8N from 1947-1953,I believe these were only about 15 horses, give or take 1 or 2.I think I have a repair manual for them around here, that would give me HP ratings,if I had your serial # I could look up what year it was made.

Some of the sediment bowls also have a screen in them,it'll be above the glass bowl, when you take that out. Also check the carb inlet,I know International used a filter in the inlet that would clog,it sounds like your getting fuel, just not enough.

Re: This is a Test!!

The tang on the pen blade is milled, probably so it could be restamped because the letters were put on one at a time, not a factory stamp. You can also see that the blade is to narrow for the frame. It looks like it was rehandled, the fit a the shield isn't very good.It also looks like the master blade i...
