Re: Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone

Happy Thanksgiving boys!
Got to do some knife trading with my uncles after dessert.

I always look forward to that every year.

Re: Another abomination

I’m not used to seeing striations on old Case carbon blades. That goes for the canoe posted by Potechop too.

Also the knife Ken posted shows visible shield pins, which doesn’t always mean a fake, but in this situation it’s a fake.

Part of the seller’s description: “I HAVE NO IDEA JUST HOW GOOD THIS IS BUT STARTING AT A PRICE THE TIRE KICKERS WILL NOT BOTHER A REAL GUY.”

Re: Best Brands to collect?

Many terrific brands have been covered here already. I’m a German Eye/Carl Schlieper fan, although I’m open to anything else of N American, German, or English origin (personal preference). I would research the names listed in this thread and let your own personal interests lead the way. Some brands ...

Agreed Herb.
The 52131 stamp is uneven too.

The seller did add a counterfeit disclaimer in the description after some folks called it out. Thank you to them.

Re: Fake Case Brothers on eBay

I’m a fan of early to mid 70’s Case knives. Sometimes the quality is freaking sweet, other times meh. I’ve seen a couple knives from that era with the same shield issue, where it is not properly fitted. When I zoomed in I thought someone took brown colored putty and filled in around the left side an...

Re: Fake Case Brothers on eBay

I cropped out a closeup of the knife. The shield isn’t a flush fit as it appears the bone was ground out further to the right. Or the shield is a replacement? Don’t know how often older Case knives have that sort of issue.

Also the bone has a look of late 70’s Appaloosa, or so I think.

Re: Fake TESTED XX 5308 sold on ebay

I’ve wondered how frugal Case might have been and if they mixed materials in Tested XX or XX eras? I guess they did, especially if certain materials were scarce during the depression or war. I’m not as knowledgeable with these older ones, but as Ken stated I do want to be educated whether I own them...

Re: Fake TESTED XX 5308 sold on ebay

Thanks for the incredible amount of information. I feel like I sat through a thesis defense. Let me go back and ask you a question, do you think that the outer pins look brass compared to the nickel silver lower center pin? To me they do, and this is inconsistent with the seller’s description. Did C...

Re: Fake TESTED XX 5308 sold on ebay

Examine closely! This one has a few other problems too, some of you Eagle-eyed folks will spot them. Ken I’ve waited for others to speak up as I would like to know more about the wrongs here. I can get to the ebay link that you sent but for some reason the pictures aren’t showing. My phone might ha...

Re: Fake TESTED XX 5308 sold on ebay

Thanks for the info, Ken.
I usually don’t venture too deep into the Case pool but love reading these analyses. I’m curious what else the Eagle eye members point out.

Aside from the knife, the seller’s used car salesman lingo in the description raises a red flag for me too.

Looks like someone used a No. 2 pencil to draw a rendition of an Eye logo. They added lashes instead of rays.

Re: Case USA 5375 Question

I probably should have posted this topic in the Knife Q&A forum instead of here since the knife in question did have some good qualities about it. Not like the 6318 in the next thread that made Ken physically ill. But to add some closure, and maybe educational value for others like me that come ...

Re: Case USA 5375 Question

That’s my kind of knife, John.
The buyer may have laid down a max bid above 147 but I would have been happy with that knife, for that price. I don’t think it’s a candidate for the Crazing Asking Prices thread 😁

Case USA 5375 Question

Although the auction is over, I was curious what you think about this knife. It's stamped as a Case USA 5375 and sold for less that what I expected. What mainly stood out to me was the shield. According to the pics, it just doesn't look right. It appears to have varying stamp widths, some areas are ...

According to the pic that knife is listed in Russia. The rouble plummeted to an all time low against the dollar. He’s swinging for the fence. Wish him well. Also there might be a sudden import/export problem this fellow didn’t count on. Edit: sorry Boji I went back and saw where you already mentione...

Not everyone is good at writing up titles and descriptions. The seller has 100% positive feedback. Which means nothing except they ship whatever the buyer bought. Some of the most notorious ebay purveyors of counterfeits have 100% ratings. ::dang:: Ken Ken, Do you recall the famed knife expert Bern...
