Re: Inexpensive pocket knife or fixed blade to learn how to sharpen on stone

You'll need a blade that's hardened enough that a file will have difficulity cutting. This is because a soft edge won't take a keen edge. I spent weeks trying to get a keen edge on a cheap blade with no joy when I first started with a flat stone. My uncle told me to try a file and it cut the blade e...

Re: FS or FT: Colonial, Parker Frost, Browning, Western, Chicago Cutlery

Scott, got your package in today's mail. rule is as advertised. I'm a happy camper. Surprisingly, I found THREE FREEBIES in the box as well. A post it notepad that's 2 7/8" by 4". I like that size, big enough to use and fits a shirt pocket. A BIC lighter with a bit of pink paracord wound w...

Ok, Scott, I'll bite.

I've tried to finish my win last Sunday thru ebay messages but no luck.
I got a message my order has been cancelled.
I'd like to roll offline if'n you're game.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: P O S Roundtable 2019

Eureka! It's taken me most of a week but I reckon I've posted my first picture! I took the photos with my tablet but it won't shrink them unless I send them email to my desktop computer. Then I migrate it to a folder and finally to this thread. I'll add the rest of the photos as I can and I'll need ...

Re: P O S Roundtable 2019

Eustice, got your package in yesterday's mail. Delivered after dark, which is unusual, by a postman I'd not seen before, who had me sign for it before he gave it to me. Very peculiar! I reckon they'll have someone to blame later. Me! I opened it and started to take out items and realized someone put...

Jody, glad you like it! I enjoyed seeing your son opening the box. Good call, their immune system is more robust than yours.

This is my first POS. When I read the invitation I thought Piece not Pile. I'll try to better next time.

Eustice, thanks for the heads up! I agree, God help America!

Jody744............. got your stinkbox sent out today. The postal clerk said you should get it Tuesday. Re: I got to thinking...

I turned to vintage double edge and single edge razors, the old twist to open and unscrew the top type, about 10-11 years ago. Some of 'em are close to 100 years old. Built to last! I can get blades at less than 15 cents each. "Traditional wet shaving", a much closer shave and zero irritat...

Re: I got to thinking...

I would agree we have become a throwaway society, but I have yet to see any of the items Mike lists come in any form that can be used indefinitely. Steve, I noticed that razors are on that list. Several years ago I was picking up a package of blades and noticed the prices. At that time, it ran abou...

Thanks for posting these pictures. I've not seen this style before.
As I've never owned a knife with a punch, I always look at them.

Re: Draw Knives: Old vs. New

Mike, there's a short article about drawknives in the May/June issue of Fine Woodworking starting on page 22. One thing I learned in the article was that there's a difference between a bevel up and a bevel down drawknife. It's how the handles are aligned with the blade. Curtis Buchanan wrote, "...

Wow, Roland, I've not seen an awl like that. That clip blade is impressive as well. This knife is a camping knife to me.

Where should I look to find me one of these to play with?

Thanks for this thread!

Wow! I like that a LOT!
Twin style blades, chamfered on top to ease piercing, long pull match strikes with different shading of stag to visually tell which blade you're using.
Whoever put that knife together was very clever indeed.
Thanks, Ed, for making my day!

Re: Found this piece at the antique store

Mike's original comment:

Third level.., toothbrush, (knife), file, and mystery utensil.....

I reckon the (knife) is for a nail clipper next to the nail file.

Nice find, good luck with the mystery utensil.
