Re: anybody else think GEC is losing it?

This thread was started a while back but I keep watching GEC and hoping for something beautiful. Now they've devolved into making single blade jacks with no bolsters and cheap synthetic covers. I see them pop up for sale and it takes less than an instant for me to click away. I'm sad about it. Worse...

Re: Who's into S & M?

Nice knives, you have some sweeties for sure, but that era was the end and there was a reason it edned. Check out the oldies and you will be blown away, back when they were up to par with the greats. The older the better with S&M. I started into this hobby because I found about 30 knives scatte...

Yeah, mine is from Colonial too. That makes sense, The Gov't usually had multiple companies supply military issue arms and knives. Even the USN Mark V dive helmet saw at least five different companies making the same pattern.

Re: WW2 United Pilot Giant Jack

I'm not so sure these are specific to pilots or United or and whatever "GR Mich" means. My grandfather was in the Navy and he was issued the same knife. I now have it in my collection (sorry no extra parts) Personally, I wouldn't call it a Jack either since that usually implies 2 blades on...

OK I don't know this as certain but this ebay Schatt and Morgan congress is very suspect to me. Thanks guys and yeah I've picked up several beautiful knives from Mark at SSK who always has the most beautiful S&M offerings. ::ds:: these pictures are what I use in my knife catalog when I enter them into the log. I usually shoot several different angles and configurations. Here are a couple m...

Re: Who's into S & M?

Back in about 2016 I started in this hobby by collecting a few different brands but mostly I grabbed GEC knives, a couple of Case and a few German brands from Solengen. AS I learned more about what I liked and GEC started to get weird I turned to Queen brands and mostly Schatt & Morgan. At this ...

Re: The latest release from Daniels Family Knife Brands

I just stumbled on to this part of the forum. Wow I didnt know that Daniels family was still making knives - looks like pretty limited production and probably pretty tough to get I would assume. I have a tuna Valley Rail Splitter in Mammoth and would love to add another DF knife or 2 to my collectio...

Re: New cheapo Queens

What the heck are the guys at Cooper doing? They certainly don't seem to be making knives. And so far there hasn't a single product from them that I would even consider owning. I was hoping they might get their act together but that isn't happening. ::facepalm:: I'm still buying pre-owned Schatts an...

Re: GEC 35 cattle, 87 paint

Sorry to keep this going but I just looked up the policy and pocket knives are fine on paypal. They only prohibit knives that are prohibited by law. This is exactly the wording in their prohibited policy: certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law. [/i] So, I take that to mean that pay...

Re: GEC 35 cattle, 87 paint

@Flynbulldog, have you looked into PayPal’s “acceptable use policy” lately? The last time I knew they were not honoring any knife related disputes…in fact they were shutting down accounts that were buying/selling knives through goods and services because knives violated their policy as dangerous we...

Re: GEC 35 cattle, 87 paint

I would urge people not to use friends and family (gift) to pay for anything on the web - you have no protection from fraud or loss, normal paypal payment does cost the seller 3% but gives you complete protection should problems arise. I think its rather sketchy for a seller to ask for paypal F&...

ebay seller edge1020

I bought a Schatt & Morgan wharncliffe whittler from ebay seller Edge1020. It turned out to be a faked or remade from parts. it had an over polished tang stamp and the ghost of an old etch on the back side of the main blade. I was able to return the knife and get a refund but they sell on ebay o...

Re: A.G. Russell Sunfish

I saw this a few days ago and looked hard at it. There were a couple of things that kept me from pulling the trigger, the first was the finish - I'm not really fond of the flat finishes that are popular right now. The second was the fact that their knives are made in China. I bought a couple of chin...

Re: anybody else think GEC is losing it?

Don't get me wrong guys, I started out as a huge GEC fan and I've collected a few over the years - nearly all of them have shown the same great detail, fit and finish as Bill Howard's earlier products out of Queen Cutlery. My complaint isn't even the pricing, A lot of folks have discovered how nice ...

anybody else think GEC is losing it?

I just bought a GEC indian paintbrush jack - and sent it back. I know how hard it is to get these knives but at this point the retailers have started charging the marked-up prices that we usually find on the secondary market, so waiting to find one from a "scalper" is no big deal - in fact...

Wondering if there is a consensus about known ebay sellers. Who sells made-up knives or fakes and who have you found that is 100% legit. I have had to return a couple of knives, one that was advertised as bone but ended up being delrin - I suppose that could be an honest mistake. But I did buy one S...

I bought one of these last year as a lark. (not the tactical version) it wasn't very expensive. I'm kinda surprised Boker put their name on it, I always thought their knives were higher quality. The mermaid knife is a piece of junk - but I still like it because it is pretty cool looking.

Re: CASE XX KNIFE ELEPHANT TOE TORTOISE SHELL 1995 TESTED XX SUNFISH # 72050

For me mumblypeg is right about the value of knives with celluloid (for me, any synthetic cover material) I love Queen made knives and the sunfish pattern is one of my favorites, But I won't buy anything with a celluloid handle, it's not just worth less to me - it's a pass. Now I'm sure there are ma...

I use word and include all of the pertinent info to fully describe the knife, it's history, and my own thoughts about it. I add a lot of pictures of many angles and including the box and any paperwork/receipts. I absolutely love the cataloging of the knife because I don't use my knives - I just coll...
