Re: Missing Persons
Dave, it's good to know all is going well. I hear you about the economy - gotta make it while you can! I see "now hiring" signs everywhere. Is your knife disease in remission, or are you just acquiring them and holding out on us? Ken Ha! Sadly, I haven't added much to the knife coll...

Colonel26 - concerned about Wade and how his wife is doing with her medical issues. Someone posted a few weeks back that they had heard from him and he was just busy with life. CheckSix. Haven't seen anything from him lately but his profile shows he checked in a couple weeks ago. Hope he's okay! An...

Re: New Hobby - Amateur Radio = Ham Radio
yes, Heathkit was awesome. I was involved with kits back in the 70's with my father. The last 2 days I have spent time learning Morse Code, even though it isn't required anymore... using a freeware download app, called "Just Learn Morse Code". It's like learning a new language. My goal is ...

Well, this is a fun photo down below... ....My 1960 Heathkit HA-10 Warrior 1kW SSB RF amplifier... with my vintage NorCal 40 QRP CW rig and Bencher BY-1 iambic paddle in front of the "boat anchor". QRP means 5W or less. In this case, the NorCal 40 is a 3W Morse code transceiver for the 40 ...

 yep, deep rabbit hole. I'm mostly Prussian and a little Dutch. Family Patriarch, Johann... arrived in Philly, in 1740, with his new Dutch bride, Baribel. Settled in the Poconos. Mother's side is all PA Dutch, i.e. Prussian/German. Been tempted to do the DNA test and see what it has to say.

OH, Happy new year! All the best! I'm sort of, a con-knee-sewer of bourbon. (Pun intended.) Can't tell you about Suntori or how ever you spell it... but my favorites are.... Blantons, Four Roses Single Barrel, Angel's Envy and so on.... in the "reasonable" price range. Try one or two of th...

Being that you are a Pilot and Ham Radio enthusiast Dave, I thought you would get a kick out of the below technology. We went to the Ronald Reagan Library and Museum in Simi Valley Ca. a few days ago to see the "Titanic" exhibit before it moves on this January 7th. They have the President...

Made my longest voice contact to date, today... using just 100W of transmit power and a simple, 39' wire antenna in my attic. Over 8700 miles, to Cape Town, South Africa. 100% copy on both sides. ::ds:: I also made contact with a Cuban gent, in Havana. Not a long distance big deal but Hams there are...

Argghhh...!! This is exactly why I don't sell stuff on eBay anymore. Too many knuckleheads. Also, a while back, eBay commission rates had gotten outrageous on selling expensive items. Basically called them, tried to work out some better deal and to get my $ selling price limit increased, all for nau...

Very cool Ray! I looked up W1EUI.... Jack is John J. Keaney in Salem, NH. Born in '39, so he is 78 y.o. I'm not on 80 meters... but if he ever shows up on 40m or 20m, I have a shot at him. It's not "weather" so much, but more about the Sun and sunspots exciting the atmosphere that helps ra...

LOL!! Too funny Phil! I hadn't thought of that connection until I read your post. My father worked for Philco right after WWII, up until the mid 60's. Right you are Jerry! The Trans-Oceanic's tag line is, "the Royalty of Radios" and well deserved. It sounds marvelous. I got the batte...

5th grade, afternoon recess, we were outside playing... the teachers called us in early and told us the news. They sent us home early from school. No bus, because it was early, so I walked home several miles through the backwoods and farm fields. I still have the Life Magazine with John John salutin...

I flew down to South Florida today. At the gate, waiting to board, I saw an old man wearing a WWII Veteran's hat. I struck up a conversation, thanking him on Veteran's Day and for what he did 75 yrs ago. Turns out, this gent was in the 1st Marines, fought on Peleliu and Okinawa as a tank driver. He'...
