Re: Bark River SOCOM

I love Bark River knives. I actually made these knives over the course of three Grind-Ins that they hold twice per year at their factory in Escanaba Michigan. Any flaws are all mine.

Re: Elephant toe or sunfish?

Just to muddy the waters a little bit more, how about a third name possibility? Case had a 70 pattern knife that was like an uneven end Elephant Toe. They called it a Snowshoe. And it does kind of look like a Snowshoe. Here are some pictures. For what its worth, I use the names Elephant Toe and Sunf...

Re: Do you keep a collection logbook/record? What kind?

I use an Excel spreadsheet from which I created a Pivot Table. It allows me to sort by one or more of the attributes listed below simultaneously. The more you know about the knife you are looking for, the more specific it gets. It just requires that when you enter the knife into your inventory on th...

Re: celluloid

I try to avoid celluloid. That said, I have to admit there are some old celluloid handle covers that I find attractive. In particular, the old Candy Stripe, Glitter Stripe and what Bulldog called Duckfeather. None of the new handle materials have been able to adequately reproduce those. I am glad to...

Re: Camillus USN Fixed Blade

Can't answer your question for sure, but in addition to being a fine looking knife it sure looks like a Case Seabee Hunter I have that I believe was made by Camillus in 2001 as a 60th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor Commemorative.

Agree the pommel does not look like a Case pommel.

I think it is a knife with a case (sheath), but not a Case knife.

Re: Broken Back Spring 1989 Case Trapper

You are right to be concerned about cleaning the Damascus blade and losing your contrasting colors. I have had some luck using WD-40 to remove some spots from Damascus and did not ruin the blade look. I also had a couple of Damascus blades that I could do some experimenting on. Both had some deep pi...

Case once used a material on their Knif/ax combo that they called a Green Pearl Pyremite. It is my understanding that it is celluloid. That said, I have never seen a Green Pearl Pyremite handle outgas.

Re: Celluloid talk

Something more to consider in addition to what Ken said above: Both Nitrous Oxide gas (laughing gas) and Nitric Oxide gas are heavier than air. That means thoses gases will collect at the lowest levels of whatever container they are in. So, in a display, never store knives with celluloid handle cove...

Re: Thoughts on platt brothers ELRED PA

30 years ago I bought a Large Congress with Imitation Tortoise Shell Celluloid handle covers that bore a Marbles tang stamp and came in a Marbles box. Although a nice knife, it was a Parker German made knife and had nothing to do with Marbles but the tang stamp and box.
