Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

Here are 10 examples for this discussion and some eye candy for my fellow addicts. ::super_happy:: 9 of the Eagles on the shields look left, and only one looks to the right. The one that looks to the right is an Ulster Dwight Divine and sons version. That is in contrast to another in the set with bo...

Just piling on here. I have bought a number of knives from George and have always found him to be reputable, with excellent products.

Yeah, that’s the ticket. 😎
I was also thinking it might depend on which side of the river the eagle is on when fishing. ::hmm::

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

Thanks Tom , you have definitely given us all a lot to consider and noodle on. I love the correlation with the actual scout patches and ranks that you shared. I too, have noticed that the eagle points left or right on various versions, and Kerr was good about highlighting this on the examples that h...

I don’t really collect girl knives but know many collectors who collect both. I do know a lot about them, I just don’t collect them.

This knife is listed in both of the primary scout knife resources that we BSA knife collectors (addicts) use: Joseph Kerr's "600 Scout Knives", and Ed Holbrook's "Official Scout Knives"

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

Here's a SCHRADE 778 with the official emblem. Didn't see SCHRADE on KJ's list? Maybe they weren't sold in Scout stores. Levine lists this knife in his "Official" group. J.O'. Schrade made a couple of official BSA knives, two pen knives specifically. This one is BSA #1060 (c1970’s)and one...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

RONFISH, you stated that I had a hard-to-find official Boy Scout knife. I am assuming you are referring to the New York Knife Co. folder. Since it doesn't have the "Be Prepared" inscription on the shield as the earlier models had, what age would you approximate mine at? Ooooooook. I guess...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

Some early hard to find examples 3030 . The NYK is very similar to the official Boy Scout version . I see that others answered most of your questions. Of note, you actually have an official Boy Scout knife here, a rare and very hard to find artifact. NYK Co used “be prepared”, the scout motto, on t...

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

I think the legend behind the Scout on that knife is that he once did a mile swim in a lake at a scout camp, while wrestling an alligator, all to save a mermaid! I could be wrong, I am getting old and my memory is fading. ::hmm:: ::groove::

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread

I am glad you have embraced the knife because it is more than that - it represents the earliest days of scouting in the US and has a confirmed lineage due to the scout name. It is super cool to learn about the scout behind the knife!

Re: Cornwall Knife Company Eagle Scout Knife

I think the story we are chasing here, defies logic. If the blade was made prior to the existence of the swell center whittler knife, then Cornwall couldn’t have possibly predicted the characteristics the blade would need in order to fit on a future Camillus whittler knife. If you look carefully aro...

Re: Cornwall Knife Company Eagle Scout Knife

Scout Knives.net documents the Camillus version as an official knife, and it is indeed liste...

Re: Cornwall Knife Company Eagle Scout Knife

Not an Official Scout knife, it’s a Camillus frame with a Cornwall main blade. Cornwalls only contribution to Scout knives were promotional knives that you could win for selling boys life subscriptions. Sorry for the news. Agreed. Cornwall knives were unofficial scout knives. This artifact is a bit...

I think it is an eBay price with a few bidders excited about the tang stamp. I was one of them but this thread may have been my undoing. :-) Without the tang stamp, 200-250 would have been high retail.

Re: Ulster Scout is not correct

I agree with Tom that it is within the realm of possible, based on historical variations and oddities with BSA knives. I suppose it is also possible that somebody tinkered but if that is the case, I cannot tell that the knife was ever taken apart based on the pictures.
