Re: Early Case XX fixed blade identification discussion

I have a case boot knife that is stamped long ways down the blade wr case and son can anyone tell me about when it was made. Jimslaton57@gmail.com If I understand your description correctly that sounds like the way Case kitchen knives are stamped. ::shrug:: You’ll likely have to post an in-focus pi...

Very obviously shaved tang. So bad in fact it looks almost like a “new grind” blade. ::woot::

Re: Misleading terminology

I’m a somewhat selective collector, but I like to “watch” auctions for items just to see what they sell for. In the past I have set my search criteria to some very limited and specific keywords. For example “Case 5383”. The results were that only when that item was listed would I receive a notificat...

Re: 2024 Case XX razor knife

I like it. The jigged bolsters at least lets anyone know that the bolsters are original. Haha Maybe so, in a way. But the bolsters are not jigged - that is the whole point of the article! ::doh:: Another note - throughout the article the author repeatedly refers to “covers”. After the covers are pr...

Re: Remington Bullet Knives (Reproductions)

Because the distributor only ordered a limited number of them and collectors have bought them up fairly quickly. In the past when others were making them them they made much larger quantities.

Re: 2024 Case XX razor knife

Nothing wrong with that at all. In fact that’s how many knives look, especially iconic older pocket knives. Case matches the covers to the adjacent bolsters’ thickness. That usually requires the removal of some handle material through a process which cutlers call “hafting”. (Which is basically sandi...

Recommend you start by reading this thread: https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?t=77592 In the posts there you'll find some very good advice, including using ebay sold listings for a source of values. That is the best current source. Regarding getting an appraisal there ar...

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I’ve not known the author to be given to hyperbole in the past. However I did find this quote from a March 2023 article in USA Today “ Last year, ATF revoked licenses at a higher rate than in any year since 2006.” In the same article an ATF representative sai...

I can only conclude that those rushing to defense of the ATF in this instance have not bothered to read the post above, which explains the uber-aggressive (my interpretation) actions advocated and executed by the current administration with regard to gun-sales transactions by both individuals and FF...

Early bluebonnets in the pasture. These are the first I’ve seen this year. A few Indian Paintbrush are popping out too. In about three weeks they’ll be thick.

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY

Looks like a tourist knife, or commemorative knife. Would need a translation of what it says on the covers to determine what tourist site, historical event, person, etc it’s about. Likely of low value unless whatever it’s about has some significance to the knife’s owner.

It’s legit. Just like handle colors, materials, and other things Case has made a bunch of different shield designs (and colors) over the last 30 years or so. They’re catering to collectors, to entice them to buy another knife for their collection, because there’s something different about it. Appare...

Re: Blade pan question

Blades are placed into a pan, the pan is pushed into a furnace where it (and the blades it contains) is heated to the desired temperature. The pan is then pulled out of the furnace and either air or oil quenched, depending on the steel. They marked an X on the pan so they knew how many times it had ...

I agree Gary. There are some modern acrylics that mimic celluloid, and some that are outstanding on their own merit. But there are some celluloids that can’t be duplicated for their beauty - at least no one has done so yet. I don’t avoid celluloid knives but I have a hard limit on how much I’m willi...

Re: Help with Repeat Needham one blade folder

Nice find! Looks to me like a budding and grafting knife. The knife blade cuts a “flap” into the bark of the plant into which the graft is to be inserted. The tapered end is then used to hold the flap open while the graft is inserted. The handle may be ivory - many of them are. Goins’ Encyclopedia s...
