Re: Pocket knife ID?
You’re fortunate to have a family heirloom - treasure it! Try taking a picture of the knife laying on a neutral background ( pa piece of white or light gray paper works great) with the blade partially open, so the tang stamp is visible. Be sure it is in focus. And the closed length of the knife will...

Rained here all day yesterday - we had almost 3 inches in the rain gauge. Today the sun was shining bright. I got out this afternoon after church and snapped a few pictures - looks like everything liked the rain! Click on pictures to enlarge for best color.

Agree totally - an “across the room” fake. If you can return it for a refund, do so. Or if you don’t have much invested in it, carry and use it. Chalk it up to a learning experience.

Re: Help to identify my Grandpa's pocket knife
You can find a lot of Japanese made multi-blade camp knives for sale on eBay at any given time. They are all of similar construction and appearance - some have a different combination of tools than others. One of the more common makers was a company called Mitsuboshi (like Mitsubishi but spelled sli...

Re: Great song lyrics
Several have mentioned Pancho and Lefty but none have given credit to its author, the late great Townes Van Zandt. Townes was a brilliant and prolific songwriter, but a troubled soul who like so many great songwriters, left us too soon. A product of his own demons. Pancho and Lefty has been covered ...

Ok, so this info may or may not have been tactically acquired from another knife related forum... I was unable to confirm this, so the following is STRICTLY my uneducated opinion. These Simmons KK stamps seem to be placed in chronological order, as follows: St Louis, MO St Louis Made in USA Made in...

Re: Knife but not the knife
You’re possibly trying to overthink it. Most Case pocket knives made after 1950 or thereabouts have a pattern number stamped on them. Unless you have a TESTED XX or an early CASE XX stamped knife with no pattern number, it should be readily evident what pattern it is. Case has a relatively easy-to-l...

I went to CASE Research as suggested and studied the dot system again. I had read all of this research once but now that I have an understanding of what I’m looking for it’s making much more sense. And as Mumbleypeg had said it is a 1974. Thanks for suggesting me to go back and to research and figu...

Re: Trouble with a CASE knife
I’m COMPLETELY CONFUSED! You can see how CASE is but there’s six dots. The way I understood it this should be a newer knife. If so CASE XX USA would be entirely different….wouldn’t they? Your best next move is to click on “Research” in the header up there at the top of this page, and start reading....

The standard “s” is the designator for carbon steel blades. The “lightning s” designates stainless steel. As for the two rows of dots, look again at the link in my prior post. Scroll down to the bottom and look at the 2020 decade stamp pictured there. It’s the same as the stamp on your knife. Or alt...

Re: Unknown Case XX cigar stockman pattern
Based on what I see and your info I’m gonna say it’s a 63055PU. The picture of the 23055PU in Sargent’s has a standard pull, so we can assume they made some blades that way. The listing in Parker’s is for a 63055LP and specifies it as having Rough Black covers. It appears from your picture the lengt...

Re: Unknown Case XX cigar stockman pattern
In the TESTED XX era the 090 was a small lobster pattern, or alternately a 3-3/8 inch scout/utility “Junior scout” in both a three-blade and four-blade version. I don’t think the 090 existed at all in the XX era through the 1980s, then was re-introduced as the frame for the Case Jr. scout pattern at...

Re: Help identifying Case knife
Sorry to say I believe it’s a “frankenknife” at best, and a counterfeit. The tang shows evidence of having been grinded down to remove the original stamp, so the Case Tested stamp could be applied. The corners of the letters in the tang stamp are not sharp and square, so it’s likely a “cold stamp” (...

Re: Case Fiberloid? Scout
It is indeed an odd one. Somewhere I have one of these red fiberloid Case scout patterns with a bolsters and a clip master blade. Pretty rare to see a scout/utility pattern with a clip master, so I’ve always been skeptical of it (else I’d claim it as being a rare find). I think I posted it som...

Just my nickel's worth. Here's an ULSTER cattle knife with really nice, peach seed jigging. J.O'. J.O., I’m not a Schrade expert, nor Ulster either, but I believe that your peach seed Ulster was probably made in the Schrade factory. Great finds. I’ve often wondered why more physician’s knifes were not made with corkscrews, given that so many medicines back in the day came in bottles having stoppers.
