Re: Requesting prayer for my father and the family.
Dale, I’m just seeing this. Prayers for all y’all left behind. No matter how prepared we are for a loved one’s passing, we’re still never ready. But I thank God that for the believer, death’s sting has been removed, and the grave holds no victory. Our Father owns the land on both sides of great veil...

A Special Young Man’s Special Accomplishment
Some of y’all know that our youngest boy (13) has special needs. He has intractable epilepsy and is a bit delayed. He’s sharp as a whip, but developmentally about 6 years younger than his age. But recently he’s taken an interest in my woodworking hobby. Since uncontrollable epilepsy and power tools ...

I would not be surprised at all to learn that Stanley bought Goodell and Pratt only to bury the sophistication of a fine company that would infringe on the promotion of Stanley. A tactic used by many. A few more pictures if it matters. That is great! And you’re spot on about Stanley. They did the s...

Re: 125 years old and still cutting.
Joe, are both of yours 2 speed? Yes, the Goodell Pratt has a button that has Slow or Fast on the cap. The button is pressed in to engage or pulled out to disengage. I haven't spent enough time with it to fully understand the mechanics of it. I'll get better pictures of that tomorrow. The Dunlap is ...

Re: 125 years old and still cutting.
Since you mentioned drills, I've got two that are still cutting it. I haven't used these in a while, especially the smaller one. But I haven't been using my tools much of late. These tools are as smooth as butter in spite of their age. ::tu:: Right you are. I still use hand tools to build...

Absolutely love mine. I wasn’t sure I’d like the recurve blade at first, but now I love it. Tough as nails, fantastic warranty, and made in the USA. Can’t get much better than that. Dogg is right though, the scales could get slippery being aluminum. But I did use mine to field dress a couple of deer...

Re: 125 years old and still cutting.
I see a few Stanley #45 around. I bought mine a few years back for $125. It is not a collectable but a user, has some missing plating, but had all the cutters that were included in 1914 and the metal box was missing the lid. I had considered a #55, but they are a lot more expensive and complex than...

"How many more generations", I would have to say not many if any. The younger generation has no use or time for anything that outdated. The last year I was working, one of my co workers, a 20 something was ranting about old hand tools being nothing but scrap iron. I took my Stanley smooth...

Reckon how many more generations my old spokeshaves and planes will go through? More than my power tools for sure! I hope they outlast that spindle sander! :D Good work, Wade, nothing like the old tried and true hand tools. They have proven themselves for years. ::nod:: Amen! Truth be told, I’m bet...

125 years old and still cutting.
I needed to make two rough cut out braces for a shelf match and my modern band saw is down, needs a new blade. So what to do? Pull out the old Stanley Rule & Level #64 spokeshave. And to fine tune the fit I used my high tech spindle sander. A little finish sanding and they’ll be ready to go. Rec...

If you don’t mind, what are the dimensions of your cabinet? It's 24 x 17 x 2 3/8" overall. Shelves are 1" wide. Door frame is 2" x 3/4". Back is Masonite laminated with cherry veneer. Wall mount is a french cleat. By all means, use what ever wood you like, but I'm not a fan of o...

Re: My Ho-Made Knife Display Case
Just finished up this project. I got tired of digging through cigar boxes to look at my knives, so I made this display to mount on the wall. It's cherry wood. Clear finish. No stain. I like cherry; it should darken with age. Very nice! The color of the cherry and the style definitely have a Shaker ...

Re: Western L77 - Ideas
Just grabbed an old L77 with a bakelite pommel (Late WWII timeframe?). Its a bit rough and the Pommel's broken, but I'm a fan of the brand, the history, and the knife style. Any thoughts on what I can "reasonably" do with this knife with beginner skills. I'd love to restore it, but am not...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
“The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!” Good morning fellers, it’s been a while for sure but that’s a story for another time. I sharpened up some knives the other night and pulled out this old friend that’s been languishing in the knife box for way too long. Not pretty or shiny, but...

Caliber alone has little bearing on stopping a threat, or animal, immediately. To have a bang flop, or a one shot stop to an aggressor you have to disrupt the central nervous system. And then there are some targets that just don't go down easy, and keep coming no matter what you hit them with, or h...

Re: How re-profile blade tip
Good job. I think you made the right call in not going over board to try to “restore” it. Many times if you go to chasing pits or grinder marks, they just got worse or your blade gets too thin.
Hit the worst with some sandpaper or files, sharpen, and let the patina hide the rest.
