Re: W M Buck?
I misremembered, the Buck family is in the London Knife Book, which lists a number of Buck's, but no WM. In the photo, it looks like it says something below the "WM BUCK" stamp? It might well be as Charlie says, that it was a German contract knife. It does not have the finish of a London mad...

If I remember correctly, there are a lot of Buck's listed in Tweedale's Sheffield Directory. I don't have it in front of my but will get back to you.

Thanks Monte! I understand how it can be, that is an awful sinking feeling when you take stock of a counterfeit knife. I hope it all worked out for you. Been too busy I might get up with him next weekend I took some millers to dalton. Roger (peanut) took a look at'em. He said they were ok . So ever...

You are so right Colonel! It is a powerful thing to look inside a hive. I find that I am quite attached to them, they really become somewhat of pets. You learn about there habits, observing interesting things like cleaning or guarding the hive or watching them do their little dance to tell the other...

Re: Irish made or embelished knives
Thanks K7K,
It is an interesting piece, the ivory is choice and the fit is very nice. Strangely enough, it is only the screwdriver and awl which have a true crocus polish with the blades being a glaze, quite odd. Either way, it is a finely made knife, well assembled with attention payed to detail.

I use one as you describe Colonel, an electric with an heated core. It makes the job easier, but it still is a sticky and slow process, at least for me anyway!

Interesting pieces gsmith, Solid looking knives with good looking sheaths. I don't know anything about the knives, but the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin is the tribe you are referring to. Here is the Tribal contact page, I would drop them a line, they might ...

Here is a lovely one marked H Thompson 9 Nassau St Dublin. It has lovely ivory handles with a shield engraved with the name L. J .Murphy I can find a reference to Henry Thompson, Cutler & surgical instrument maker, 5 Dame street, house 5 Berry's terrace, Rathmines (Dublin) in the Slater's 1846 C...

K7K, I really like that Keystone advertising Miller Brothers. Very Pretty Charlie ::drool:: Beautiful collection Berry. Thanks Big Homer!
Monte, Tool shows are a good place to look. The internet is another option. The real difficulty is in the price. I also have an antique store friend who gets in this kind of thing as he likes books. You might try asking around any antiquarian type book stores.

Nice knife Ludwig,
I can't find any Alfred & Son in Tweedale's Directory of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers. To me it looks to be a German made knife.
