Re: Old Harrington (Dexter)/What was this blade designed to

Hi, that`s a pretty cool little knife that I`ve seen a few fellows use for wood carving. I recently ran across an old Harrington pocket knife so I was doing a little research and found some general information you might enjoy. This information on the company was found in Wikpedia: Harrington Cutlery...

Re: Craftsman Whittler 9488

Hmmm, kind of looks like a Kabar or Camillus to me with those small grooved bolsters, but then again, I just woke up from a nap and I`m like a hundred years old, so what would I know

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company

Thanks for the thread Charlie, have always felt that Robeson/Terrier knives are some of the best made knives for it`s day and age and of course their jigging patterns and that strawberry bone handle ....well to me those are the prettiest bone handles ever made. Love seeing your photos and especially...

Re: Let's keep it clean

Thanks Dale, there`s certainly nothing wrong with reminding people that having courtesy, respect , and acting responsibly and with common sense not only reaps huge benefits in the long run but also sets a fine example of what we(adults) need to set for youngsters who may also belong to our group. Th...

Re: Need help identifying old Tidioute Pennsylvania pocket k

Mr. Anthony, thank you for your replies concerning this fine old knife. If you would like, I can send you this knife for closer examination. From what I can tell, the pins do look to be steel and the bolsters to have been polished but I`m just an old collector( I was born back in 1951 ) of pocket kn...

Re: Need help identifying old Tidioute Pennsylvania pocket k

That`s pretty amazing, I am sure I`ve never seen any "backstop" (so to speak) on any old time knife like that before and it seems highly improbable that any custom work would or could occur on that knife after it`s original build that would include that feature. Does it lock up tight or is...

Re: Need help identifying old Tidioute Pennsylvania pocket k

Well, I knew that English steel was considered to be some of the best in the world at that time and for many years later but was not aware that the German steel of that period was considered to be inferior. That`s certainly a good thing to know. Above and beyond that, Mr. Anthony, can you tell me if...

Re: Need help identifying old Tidioute Pennsylvania pocket k

That looks to be a pretty massive knife, and probably repinned at some point in time. I think you are right in thinking your knife is a German made knife. Like you I find it odd that it too is stamped "Penn Cutlery Co." From what little I have ready on Penn Cutlery Knives and Tidioute Knif...

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers Ray. She`s presently doing a lot better since starting her dialysis about 4 weeks ago. Since we are doing it at home, there was a lot of training and preparations we had to go through to get it started. Her kidneys are presently working at about a 5% rate, mean...

Thanks Phil and Joe, I was thinking it must be a Penn Cutlery Co knife but didn't want to just assume that when I knew there were real experts here. Hope to hear more soon.

Need help identifying old Tidioute Pennsylvania pocket knife

Hello again......it`s been a while. With the wife now on dialysis and awaiting a new kidney, it kind of keeps me busy with the priorities of life, so I don`t get much time to just visit and "have fun" so to speak. But I did run across a very nice old 3 and 9/16 inch cattle stockman with to...

Re: info on Indian beaded sheath and knife

Hi, about all I can tell you is that the beadwork is definitely done in America and not some Japanese knock off. I agree that the knife did not come with the sheath originally. I belonged to an American Indian organization back when I was a kid. We made all of our own outfits including all of our ow...

Re:GR(in a circle)Ivory handled-anyone know the maker?Identi

Hello folks. After much research I have finally identified the maker of this knife, which is Guillemin-Renault who was apparently a master cutler from Nogent, France circa 1880. If you run an online search on this name you can find some nice photos and information on this maker and others from Europ...
