I Shoulda Known They'd Do It!

It's pointless to try to resist. I've been telling myself that I don't need to spend any more on GEC knives and then I make the mistake of going to their website. And what do I see--they're coming out with my favorite pattern of all, a four inch serpentine stockman! Here's the 81 Abilene Stock Knife...

Dang I'd love to have one of those Pembertons! I missed it when they came out and on top of that my banker thinks it's a bad idea. But they sure do look like nice little pocket knives!

Re: What you would like to see GEC. make.

Instead of a specific pattern I'd like to see them do more of the type of jigging seen recently on some of the Pemberton and Eureka Jack models, I think the ones I've seen were in what they call Autumn Gold. It's a very irregular, random, deep pattern. My only complaint with GEC is that a lot of the...

I don't post a lot but I visit here a pretty good bit.

JR seemed like a generous man and one of the good guys and the place won't seem the same without him and his enthusiasm.

RIP, and condolences to his family and friends.

Re: Old Official & Non-Official Folding Military Pocket Kniv

Looked thru the thread--some great stuff here. I don't think I've seen a PAL. I've posted this on the forum before, I think in the Military section. My father was issued this on New Guinea, carried thru the war and for years after. He got the Nambu on Luzon. https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/imag...

That's gorgeous--a 35 1/2 I guess?

The Case swell ends, 31 and 35 are my favorites.

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?

WB, you make a good point. At some point there is a transition from a high end, limited run almost "custom" item to a commodity. As Ramrod said, the sodbuster styles they are making are an attempt at higher production/lower cost. I'd be very happy if they made a couple of other patterns &q...

Re: Are people still collecting GEC?

Exactly correct I believe. I can understand how the dedicated GEC collector with abundant financial means may enjoy the numerous short runs. But I think this works against the growth of their market. There are so many variations in such small quantities that few new people are exposed to them. The ...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

Thanks guys. It's a honey. I got it at the Blade show for my nephew but it's in such good shape--it had the factory edge on it I'm sure--I decided to give him another knife and hang on to this one for a while. I remember how many knives I lost at his age. Besides, I don't have kids and he'll get 'em...

Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?

I've been carrying this old PAL cutlery jackknife lately. When it's hot out knives tend to get pepper spotted in my pocket, and this old knife is in such fine condition I'd hate that. So I've been taking advantage of the cool weather to give it some pocket time! Any idea how to get a rough idea of w...

That was dang nice. That model was my first GEC. It's a nice little knife. First thing I did with it was stab myself in the finger when I went to close it for the first time--the tip on that blade was super pointy!

I have no idea why the Powderhorn and the other toothpicks were not more popular patterns. Out of my seven GEC knives this may be my favorite and is the only one I baby/try to keep looking pretty by waxing a lot and carrying in a little leather pocket sheath. A very pretty knife. I carry all my GECs...

I'm not a Randall expert but I know a little. That looks like it's been rehandled. I also think it's possible that the blade has had some reshaping. What is the length of the blade?

There's a Randall specific forum that you can find if you do a bit of Googling. Those guys could tell you for sure.

I've been totin' this rascal the last few days. It's so dang pretty I've been taking special care to wax the blades and carry it in a little pocket holster I made when I was a kid at camp. I think this is my favorite GEC pattern yet. Feels great in the hand and carries well, I wish the pic showed th...

Re: How About a Pal Cutlery Thread?

Johnnie, I've got some Japanese ammo that Dad gave me with the pistol. Didn't know that's what it was until I did a little research, but it's WWII issue Jap ammo. I thought it might have been reloads or something. The ammo actually has a little value. I'd really like to shoot the thing but I've resi...

Posted these before, but just saw this thread. Here's one I found at the Blade show, basically mint as far as I can tell, and is a wonderfully made knife: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc98/Rebelsdad/PalCutlery2resized.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc98/Rebelsdad/PalCutleryresized.jpg ...

That Whittler is a great looking knife! Why do they keep doing this to me? I had one more on my list that I don't have yet, the bullet end jack, and they gotta make that beast of a Whittler!

Now I gotta find a bullet end and figure out how to get a Whittler. It just ain't right.

Nice pictures! I only live about an hour away, and this year was the first time I've gone, and I didn't get there until almost 11 am Sunday. Not near enough time to see the show, although I did pick up three nice knives. I'll go earlier from now on! I was looking at all those knives in that display,...

Dan, the more I handle it the more I like that PAL. I'll carry it some in the winter when it's not so humid and I'm not sweating so much. It's by far the nicest old knife I have. I think the nephew's gonna get a Case jackknife (35 1/2) instead of the PAL. I don't have kids so he's getting all the gu...
