Re: Case auction knife

I'd bet it isn't Case. My best guess is that the knife is a WW 2 vintage Navy Mark 1. The knife has a steel guard which is a key to war time production. The shape of the pommel suggests manufacture by Geneva Forge. The sheath appears to be original, although left-handed. I guess that is about all I ...

Re: Old Knife Identification

I'm quite sure the tang stamp is by Ray Ennis. Judging from the style, it may be a knife he made while still in North Dakota. Ray is no longer making knives, but you should be able to find information by searching "Entrek Knives".

Re: Gerber rigging knife with marlin spike

I have collected Gerbers for several decades and am unaware that the company ever sold a rigging knife. Camillus made such a pattern about that time frame, and Buck also sold the Camillus made knives, but with Buck branding and black handles.

Re: Gerber sportsman identification

Gerber produced the "Folding Sportsman" series from 1974 through 1997 in three sizes. Yours is the smallest (FS-1) and was produced 76-97. At some point during that span Gerber changed the blade grind, but I don't know just when. It is interesting to note that New Windsor NY's knives exhib...

Re: Little help please 🙂

I would conclude that your MkII is a knife from a "President's Collection" set due to the four digit serial number. The engraving is indeed different from any other example I recall. I have two of the engraved sets and although the engraving on my knives does vary slightly, neither of my k...

I think you got it right garddog, "...rugged perfect for a user".
I'm no "woke" youngster at 73, but I just surveyed my using knives and 11 of 21 have plastic handles.
(I hope that revelation doesn't get me excommunicated or something.)

By golly, Guerrilla, I think you hit it on the head. That would be a pretty accurate representation, but they should probably work Marx in there someplace, too.

Re: Selling knives at Gun Shows - a discussion

Jim, I am also retired and "Junkin" is my favorite hobby. I attend flea markets, gun shows, and a couple of knife shows each year. I also hit yard, estate, and auction sales. I buy anything I find that is sharp and cheap. I spend days fixing, sorting, sharpening, and cleaning. I can't keep...

Re: Gerber 97223 Engraved G, Sherwood Brass Frame Yellow Micarta

Your knife appears to be an FS-1 model. It has the earlier blade grind so was made between 1976 and 1983/84. I can't determine what the handle material is from your photos, and the engraving is not a standard feature. My guess is the engraving was done for (or by) an owner.

The pictured knife is tang stamped "West-Cut" as were all K series knives I've ever seen. I've witnessed much discussion about West-Cut being Western's cheaper line, but I have no idea if that is a fact.

Re: Help identifying Gerber Knife "Designed by RW Loveless"

Gerber made several versions of the Loveless folder. Yours is the most common with rubber handle inserts. They also made some (I have no idea how many) with a black bald eagle scrimshawed handle, and a run of 250 with a beaver on the handle for the Oregon Knife Collectors club. There are also exampl...

It appears in your photos that the wood handle insert is broken and quite a large piece is missing. If so, the value of the knife would be greatly reduced.

Re: Vintage Gerber knife

Your knife is an FSII drop point. The knives were made in three sizes with the FSI as the smallest, the FSII, and the larger FSIII. The FSII was made with two blade shape variations, yours is the scarcer of the two.
As to price, they vary wildly.

We visited Willey Knives in 2018, and greatly enjoyed the experience. The father sent us home with some mementos that are still here on my desk. If you are ever even close to Greenwood, be sure to make time to visit. I'd certainly like to go back, but it's a long ways from North Dakota.
