Cattaraugus Blade Abbreviations

On some Cattaraugus knives you will find additional letters that represent certain blades or other unique characteristics incorporated in their knives. The blade abbreviations will be found following the pattern number. Below is a list of abbreviations and what they stand for.    If you run across any terms that you are not familiar with, click hear to look it up in our glossary of terms. 


B   = The knife will have a bail and/or the handle will be burnt bone or blue celluloid.

BW  = The knife will be a barlow pattern

D  = The knife will have a screwdriver / caplifter blade.

C   = The knife will have a clip blade and/or have candy striped celluloid handles.

F   = The knife will have flat bolsters.

G   = The knife will have gambler pearl handles. 

OP     = The knife will have opal pearl handles.

  JR  = The knife will be a junior pattern.  One that is identical to another (with the same factory pattern number) only smaller.

L   = This knife will have a locking mechanism.

LB   = This knife will be a lockback.

ORI  =  The knife will have Oriental pearl handles.

P       = The knife will have a pen blade.

PP       = The knife will have peacock pearl handles.

R = The knife will have red celluloid handles.

 

S       = The knife will have a scribing or spear blade, and/or have a shield.

SH   = The knife will have a sheepfoot blade.

Spat.   = The knife will have a spatula blade.

SS  =  Blades and backsprings will be made of stainless steel.

W    = The knife will have a file blade or a wrench.

WH     = The knife will be a whittler pattern.

Y    = The knife will have yellow celluloid handles.
