ADDITIONAL INFO:   I am no expert on Marbles Knives but based on information I could find in Konrad Schreier’s book; “Marbles Knives & Axes” I believe this is a Marbles Ideal No. 45, with the five inch blade and probably made before World War II, probably the 1930s. There are some scratches in the blade that I could not remove completely without taking off too much metal. Most of the polishing of this blade was with very fine wet/dry sandpaper, 3M polishing paper and with polishing compound on a leather stropping board. It’s also the way I put the final edge on the knife.

The knife was in a reasonably good condition other than the handle when I got it. The handle had quite a bit of damage to the leather rings, it appeared that someone had cut them for some reason. I replaced the original leather rings with new leather rings and with a piece of elk stag. The stag came from the eye guard of a set of elk antlers, and it has been stabilized. The sheath is of a simple fold over design, called a “tube sheath” by some companies. The sheath is gusseted, riveted and saddle stitched by hand, by me. I also covered the back of the retaining strap snap with leather, so it did not scratch the handle. The sheath was designed to fit this knife.

This is a restored & customized vintage knife. Like most old soldiers it may have a few battle scars, but it is ready to go to work!
