I believe the knife is a Prototype of a high end sliding button switchblade made by California Knives. California Knives was started in 1992 by Rocky Moser and Boyd Britt with a little auto that started the little automatic craze. These were originally marketed by Smith and Wesson. The original California legal production version had a rocker type button.

It's a great looking knife with abalone insert in the handle. I believe the handle is aluminum and it has cool looking engraving. The blade is marked CALIFORNIA KNIVES, BRITT USA.

Here's a listing for the production version of the knife - copy & paste (https://www.friedlybrothers.com/california-knives/california-knives-automatic). There's some differences such as the logo text & placement, button design, handle material and the blade grind. It's a one of kind knife and sweet piece for your collection! Please remember to check out my other items.

- Has never been carried or used. It has light scuffs and scratches from handling and storage. I don't see any other condition issues. See the pictures as they represent the condition accurately.

- Coil spring fires stong and the blade locks up nicely. It's a button open/button close function.

- The total length with the blade open is a little under 5 inches, the blade is 2 inches.

- Knife only.

WANT LIST: I do my best to maintain an inventory of interesting and unique knives. I'm always looking for single pieces and collections. My current switchblade focus includes Miniature & Keychain, Vintage Imports from Europe (Spain, France, Italy, etc.) & Asia (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc.), RPK's, Bullfighters, older Microtechs & Daltons and some other American Switchblades. I also like interesting miniature knives and arms, 1980's Import Balisongs, Coutel, Digby's (Graham Clayton) and older Great Eastern Cutlery folders.

ABOUT: I've been into knives since I was a kid. I always seemed to have a small accumulation of them in my dresser drawer for example. I started carrying one regularly in 1991 when I was in the US Army stationed in Panama. My knife collecting days started around 2010 and in 2021 I decided to become a dealer.

I'm still a collector so I understand the fun and excitement of finding a new treasure. Because of that I always do my best to give accurate information about my knives and their condition. I take lots of pictures and offer video's for all the switchblades and some of the other knives I sell. I research sales prices and other available information and have a great network of dealers and collectors to draw from. All that said, I still make mistakes so please let me know if something I say is innacurate or misleading.
